Replacing spacesaver wheel.

Forgive me if this topic has already been covered, I have done a search but can't find what I'm looking for.

I use my '09 D3 to tow a twin axle caravan and have been warned that I should consider changing the spacesaver spare wheel for a full size as towing on a spacesaver isn't recommended. I have sourced an exact match (I assume) 2nd hand alloy and tyre on ebay but before I order I want to be sure that it will fit in the spare wheel cradle, or do I have to modify it somehow? any info/advice would be great.

What do you have & what have you found? Without that basic info how can the question be answered?

Sorry, I didn't realise you would need to know the specific wheels to know if they would fit in the carrier. I have these on the car.

and have found http://item.mobileweb.ebay.co.uk/viewitem?...0899546843

Both have same tyre size etc and haven't been able to find same style wheel in anything but 18" 8j so assume they are the same.

Yep, they are the same. Some issues with earlier FFRR 18"ers but these are D3 XS rims. Tyre size in title is a mistype, in main text it's the right size. Thumbs Up

PS £90 is a bit rich for a single wheel/tyre but the tyre is newish so if you need it now not too bad.

I've got one of these underneath at the moment. It is a tight fit. The 17" mud tyres look exactly the same size, but wont go in!

Thats a standard D3 XS alloy (and only comes in that style and size) with a standard 255/60x18 tyre - its drops (or lifts) straight in, not even close to being tight.

Cheers everyone for the prompt and helpful replies, SWMBO will be pleased I don't have to modify anything, it is her car after all. Especially after I sheared a bolt whilst fitting the roof rails recently and needed to have it drilled out and retapped. Confused She wasn't impressed. I think i'll need to wait a while before i try to fit a reverse camera. Thumbs Up
