20 inch or 19 inch wheels
Hi All,
A stupid question... What is the practical difference between 19 and 20 inch wheels on a D4?

19" probably give a more comfortable ride.
20" are lower profile and may give less lean on corners, but it ain't a sports saloon.MY12 D4 HSE Ipanema Sand

How about 18" - ride even better; better performance off-road & in ice & snow?

19s better off road, 20s much better on road, but be carefull with 20s profile, not good on off road.

I have driven D4 on both....and was surprised how hard the ride was compared to my 18's......depends if you value looks over practicality...."Better to remain silent and be thought a fool,than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

Are we talking on a new car or s/h ?
Personally I think the 20" look much better than the new standard HSE wheels, but saying that can appreciate 20" are probably not suited for off road use, which is why I intend finding some 19" and some serious rubber for off road/winter driving !

I took the 20s off mine and put them in the shed, only due to the low profile/wife driving/kerb scenario!.
Put 19s on with Grabber Ats as this suits me better, no noticable increase in road noise but a bit more role."you cannot teach stupid people to do clever things"

you can fit the latest Grabbers AT's in 275/45x20's on the 20" rims - should give a decent ride and some decent grip for playing.

IMO 19" is the size to go for, just the right size for the car not to big or small, plus tyre prices are very reasonable, I think the bigger the wheel the more weight and stress on the cars running gear - stick with oem if you can remember the weight the are supporting

20's are about £50 per corner more expensive than 19" tyres. Also there's less choice of specialist tyres (e.g. Winter tyres).

I wonder what the Landrover guys put on when they go out on a big trip. Personally the smaler the rim the bigger the tyre, the better the ride both on and off-road.Discovery 4 2.7 SE
