MadJax

You are sooo right the smaler the rim the bigger the tyre, the better the ride both on and off-road.

Many people are influenced only by "bling" - you buy a Discovery for is capability, not for looks.

I have a shooting buddy on 20" rims who has had to replace four tyres this season because of damage from stones, particularly flints (on the Downs).

That's just the problem on certain tyres & rim sizes you can't driving everywhere; and IMHO you don't look good!

Hi all, bought our D4 seven weeks ago with 20" fitted by LR, had the chance to swap it back to 19" but on the test drive it felt quite smooth but on our poor suffolk roads it was just too hard for my liking so have taken the 20" off and put 19" on. Yes the 20" 10 spoke did look good but for me the ride is more important, 20" now helping to fill the garage. Thumbs Up

20s or 19s

just put 20s on my d3, the ride is a little bit harder than my 19s but i love the look of the 20s so no regrets

I have 20" on my D3 and have to admit that they look great, in my opinion, like they actually fit the car. I was fortunate (?) that they came with the car and are LR OEM wheels, so as far as the weight capability is concerned, its no worries compared with some of the "budget" alloys available on the market. I say "budget" as I have seen some of the fake and poorly made wheels during my travels around the world ..... ask yourself why alloy wheel shops appear in countries where people can barely afford to feed themselves.

As for the profile ..... I have had sports cars with exceptionally low profile on them and the 20's on my D3 are nowhere near that extreme, in fact they are more like a reasonable profile in comparison.

Offroad and winter capabilities?

I will probably never find myself in an offroad situation that would make a difference compared to 19's or 20's and as far as driving in the snow is concerned ...... when it gets to the point that we are warned not to go out unless we absolutely have to ... I tend to heed the warnings due to it not being me I'm concerned about, but the other muppets who cant keep control of their vehicles in these conditions.

If I wanted to seriously do any offroading I would buy a 110 or 90 as I see the D3 as more of a luxury car with offroad capabilities ....... but hey, thats just my opinion.

Its like Jezza Clarky said ........ My D3 can be compared to my watch ...... my watch is good for 1,000 meters depth in water ...... it will never go there, but its good to know it will be fine if I drop it in the sink.

Thumbs Up

stick some 275/45x20 Cooper LTZ's or Grabber AT's, and it will still go to pretty much anywhere you want it to go.
