Shoulder puncture
One of my Wintracs with about 6k miles on it got a screw though the tread on the outer shoulder (not on the sidewall). I was lucky to spot it whilst washing the car and took it straight in to a domestic-type tyre depot for repair with no further damage.
The tyre guy reported that their patches could not be used in such a case (too close to the sidewall) and he recommended replacement.
So I am looking for a second opinion. Is it just the quick repair type places which have a quick-fix type of patch which cannot be used in these circumstances? If I went to a 'proper' tyre place, would they be able to repair it with proper equipment? I don't want to take any risks but I don't want to squander this nearly new tyre either.
Grateful for any helpful advice.2016 D4 Landmark SDV6 (Euro6), Zanzibar (late run D4)

these can be repaired (as much as some say they cant) - you need a place that does vulcanising, try a truck place.

most of the "kwikfit" type places wont do them, but you need to find a place that does "major" repairs, as even sidewalls are fixable. I know this tends to cause a heated discussion on here about whether its right or wrong, safe or not, but providing its done correctly, then its perfectly OK.

Reginald,
I believe RM Tyres in Bonnybridge (just off the M876, junction 1) offer the vulcanisation service. I'm not sure of cost but I am told the tyre has to be left with them for about a week. Worth a phone call.

A quality repair should last longer than the tyre.
I was told by one place (Bob Jane) it could not be repaired and they wanted me to buy a new tyre. I had bought a set of tyres a week earlier from them. Needless to say I will not be using them again.
Went to Jax and they repaired it for me.“There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Had similar problem a couple of weeks ago - an industrial staple in the shoulder.
Went to a large independent outfit who do trucks as well. they send such repairs to the factory in Germany, did not get a quote as i was lucky, buy the time i had driven there it had stopped bubbling. He concluded that it was air which got trapped as the staple went in. Have kept an eye an it since - no problem. 2009 Disco-3 HSE
