Pirelli atr or GGat

Hi All,
Got to replace 2 tyres and I am thinking of either Pirelli ATR or General Grabber AT. From the point of view of longevity and bearing in mind the slightly higher cost of the ATR what would you all recommend.

The consensus seems to be don't mix these with other tyres, 4 is best. Re which, ATRs. Whistle Mr. Green Thumbs Up

Be aware if thinking of the Pirelli ATR (as I was) that they will soon be unavailable in the UK..... meaning that you would also need to swap all 4 tyres (or 5) next time!

So, would it be unwise to replace 2 worn ATR's with, for eg, Grabber AT even though they are all "all terrain" tyres.

As far as I know, mixing tread patterns is not a good idea and there are also potential problems in mixing tyres with significantly different rolling circumferences. (Like well worn tyres vs new ATs).

Sure some of the tyre gurus on here can clarify.

This "rumour" has been kicking around for the past couple of years Rolling Eyes last time I checked with Andy at AJS he said there were no plans to stop making them but they do limit production runs which can give the impression they were being phased out.

Got it directly from Pirelli UK.

"The 255/55 R19 ATR is due to be phased out of the UK range later this year; however, we do still have stock available to order.

The ATR will continue to be available in 255/60 R18."



Although, I just noticed that the OP has a D3.... if they are 18" wheels he is fine - go and buy the ATR without fear. If it is 19" (like my D4) better to look elsewhere or buy a few sets.

Man will I look a Censored if he has 18" rims. Embarassed

I agree.

Considering that most D4 are now leaving the factory with 19" rims, this is a very odd decision and makes me wonder whether an ATR2 is coming to the UK late this year. (I suspect that this isn't the case though, as the ATR would surely be going 'end of life' in other markets too).

They did suggest that the Pirelli Scorpion was a suitable alternative and was the default OEM fitment though.... which was helpful, despite not being an AT tyre. Rolling Eyes

(I also had to point out that all D4s now leaving Solihull are wearing Goodyear Wranglers.)

Just ordering up 4 new tyres for my 2010 D4. Big Cry
Done 34k miles to date, summers on factory Zeros, winters on Wintracs. It all seems to be a bit soon to me. Embarassed There is some tread left on the Zeros but not enough to make it worthwhile putting them back on for another summer season.

Is there anything can be done with not-entirely-worn-out tyres like this apart from binning them, it seem such a waste (and expense)? Crying or Very sad

So I'm going for Grabber ATs, best price so far is from Quackfat at £716 incl VAT fitted and balanced. Unless you know better?
 2016 D4 Landmark SDV6 (Euro6), Zanzibar (late run D4)
2009 D4 HSE TDV6, Bali blue (first run D4)

It appears that this is strictly a Pirelli UK range issue and that they will be available in other markets Question

i have 4 pirrelli scorpian ATR and they are the worst tyre known to man...have had about 5 goes at balancing them now just live with the very slight judder..cant wait till they wear out

i had the pirelli scorpion zero before the ATR and they were a fine tyre but teh ATr does have some balancing issues check out some american sites it is a known issue
