Whats the best discount so far ? |

Whats the best discount so far ?
Has anybody tried AUTOBID to obtain the best price. What about brokers? it seems most peeps are doing business with official dealers, is that because it is difficult to offload £30 to £40 grands worth privately ?
Also hear that the National Farmers Union can provide a discount voucher. Discovery 3 HSE 55 plate Buckingham Blue with Alpacha
Discovery 300 TDI auto, one of the last, now gone
Freelander 2 gs manual, from new, now gone
Defender td5 full county pack, from new lovely lovely, now gone
Defender 110 12 seater 300tdi no heater, good prep for antarctic, now gone
various old farm landies, what a way to learn to drive !!!

NFU offer upto 5% (XS 4%, HSE 5%) on a discovery but you have to have been a member for 6 months before you can get the voucher thats on top of any discount negotiated privatly with the dealer. Duncan

I got nowhere with my SW London dealer - apart from him saying he could do a deal on the gap insurance - very generous (not).
Be careful with internet brokers - I did a deal with one and having waited almost 3 months was told LR had cut supplies. Some of the brokers scource via leasing companies which is taking a risk which IMV is not worthwhile.
I think it essential with such brokers that they put you on to the LR dealer and you contract with them - not the broker - and all monies go to the dealer.
If you search you will find various tales of woe with the 'net brokers.
But I have just taken delivery via Drive the Deal who I would recommend . I got just under 8% off. The delay in the first non-supply helped - I got a 2012 MY at £300 less than the first deal.

So does that mean that the discounts via Stratstone which many members say are offering good deals just now, can be improved with the production of a voucher once you have beaten them down ie 6% plus 5% on an HSE. Also to be a member of NFU do you need to hold a policy ? Discovery 3 HSE 55 plate Buckingham Blue with Alpacha

I tried Autoebid who where giving the best price on line and commited to a £600 fee if they came up with the figure promised. They didn't, the nearest was around £1000 off so no fee payable !
I even gave them a second chance email to see if they could do a little better, answer was still no !
I contacted my local dealer and gave him the price I was looking for and he beat it by £300, which was better than the Autoebid price !
I got circa 10% off from the dealer and another 5% from NFU, so around £8k+ saving on a new HSE with plenty of toys.
You have to be a fully paid up NFU member 'Farmer Grower' and have been for at least 3 months, being a NFU insurance policy holder will not get you any money off a Disco !

So what's the minimum definition of 'farmer grower'?
Can a farming employee be such a member?

We traded in our 2011 D4 HSE with 20k on the clock, for a new HSE 2012 in March and the cost to change after all discounts and on the road was £4250.
Thought that was a pretty good deal and well happy.
Worked out at around £330 month. Well you can't do that very often on a £50k vehicle. I know we had to part with the cash last year but it still looks a good deal.
Let's hope they continue to hold their value.
The dealer has it up on his forecourt @ £46850. So I don't really think he's made too much on it after he's put new tyres & 12 road tax etc.
Happy D4 owner.
