Extended Warranty Issues

New D4 is now due in 27 days Smile

Current 08 D3 has extended warranty until end of month. Clutch is gonna go any day, blocked a roundabout yesterday as couldn't get any gears and very noisy today. LR wont stand by the clutch as 4 yrs old and 91k they say is fair wear and tear. I can see their point but a bit fecked off never the less.

The indie LR is now booked to do the clutch (at my expense) as I want to sell D3 privately as is in good order and stealer P/EX is toooo low.
Garage says it sounds as if gearbox may be knackered as well. Rumbling sound (when idling and stationary) disappears when the clutch is engaged. Say they'll know more when stripped down but I cant justify a new gear box with less than a month before it goes. Does anybody think LR would try and wriggle out of a new gearbox based on wear & tear?

Worried from suffolk Sad

Couldn't the rumbling be the thrust bearing for the clutch?? Seems a bit of a leap by LR to suggest that the box is on the way out. Symptoms sound like a bearing. I'd take it to a really good indy (pay's your money, etc) and let them do the clutch and give you their thoughts whilst they're doing it, and see how it runs with a new clutch.

The fact that your noise goes with the clutch depressed sounds like a bearing issue as opposed to a 'broken gearbox' or whatever they've said.

Good luck.

Well that was my first thought but I was bowing to greater knowledge. Hopefully you're right....

Sounds like its probably the dual mass flywheel common problem they start to deteriorate if the clutch has ever been too hot you should be changing it as part of the clutch change any way it's good practice

Would have thought flywheel was cause of noise rather than the box.

I had a rumbling that was the release bearing, does it appear and disappear when you press the clutch? Its only about £65, change when doing the clutch anyway. Thumbs Up

@ Dave T, Yep, disappears when you put clutch in and re appears when you let clutch out. Hoping it will hold out tomorrow with a car on a transporter trailer...... Confused

P.S.
Just seen Newton Mearns as your location. Nice area, used to stay there with a mate, Windsor Avenue IIRC.
