would be interested to know your thought on living with the 3 after driving a 4 for a while . with most people going the other way and being blinded by the new wheels you just get the usual "this or thet is so much better "blah blah
how is going back with the ex anything you prefer retrospectively or think they got wrong in the 4 over the 3. post your thought after a few weeks of day to day MY05 SE D3 Manual my first LR what a car

ive been driving the D3 and the D4 equally for the last couple of years (about 35k miles pa in total). The D4 is a lot smoother and refined, but then the D3 has got all the exped bits and pieces. That said the D3 is also smooth and refined - just not as much as the D4, but infinitly better than the D2
They do drive differently but the D3 is still a luxurious car even though its almost 6yrs old.
however, in summary - the D4 is a much better car (but then the D4 HSE costs £11K more than the D3 HSE did in 2006 !!)Duncan

I do like the D3 with the performance exhaust - sounds much better than the crap music played on local radio stations Duncan

Paid the deposit today. Fuji White with Ebony interior. 3.0 L diesel, HSE spec. May build for July delivery. Have to sell the D3 and will be sad to see it go. Not going to fit 'roo bar, nor a winch this time around. Will also be leaving the rear tyre bar off but will be getting the long-range fuel tank, so the spare tyre will be going up on the expedition rack (apparently the rack made for the D3 will fit perfectly). Still undecided as to getting a second spare tyre. Only needed the second spare twice in five years of D3 ownership.
The extra power and especially the extra torque will be very handy when pulling our 3.5 tonne caravan. Going for the electric diff locker this time around. Definitley getting the raised air intake again this time as well. Can't wait.
Cheers

I think that would rather make the decision for me... particularly if you are likely to end up in remote parts...
My hope (for the road car...) is never to need the single spare, let alone knowing how often I might need the second...
