Hi all,
I'm blowing a bit of black smoke under heavy acceleration so I decided to check my intercooler hose. Does anyone have any tips on how to get the cover off that's in the wheel arch? I have managed to break 3 of the 4 little black plugs. I then decided to have a feel and nit take the cover off just I case I broke all 4. Can I buy spares? I felt a little bit of oil around the bottom of the hose. I assume that means that it is not airtight (?) and therefore may be causing the black smoke? Reasonable assumption? Can I just call TLO at Yeovil or should I PM him. I feel that I should replace the hose as I'm going to France on holiday soon and will be doing c1500 miles.
Thanks,
Craig. Java Black Metropolis MY06

I won't bother with TLO for the clips - they are only about a fiver for 5 - Part Number ANR 2224 for 5 in a bag
Best ringing up before you travel to get them though.
The clips come out by removing the centre pin, which splays the back to tighten it up. They do often break on removal.
Oil at the bottom probably means a loose hose clip - or split. Mark.

Mine started creating a James Bond style black smoke screen upon acceleration.
It was accompanied by a "whoosh" of air from under the bonnet.
Sure enough, there was a split in the "intercooler to engine" hose. It cost about £35 from Bearmach & took about 20 minutes to replace.
I took off the small plastic cover under the wheel arch to access the bottom hose clip. Fortunately, none of the plastic clips broke.
With the new hose fitted the car produces hardly any smoke when "hooning" and feels much more perky.
I'm sure that I've seen the clips for sale on E-bay. Mitsubishi Outlander Phev 4H 2018.

Thanks fellas . Have found the clips on eBay (thanks for the part number). Couldn't see a split in the hose but then again I couldn't see much of it without the cover being removed. No loss of power with smoke so based on what I've read in the forum it's hopefully the hose. Will order a new one. Must admit, smoke is quite handy for clearing the tailgaters Java Black Metropolis MY06

Replaced the hose this evening. Haven't test driven it yet but gave the engine a blast while sat on the drive. Small puff of smoke on the first blast, nothing like it was before (on the road), up to 4.5k revs and clean thereafter. Fingers x'd that's fixed it. Great "how to" advice from the various forum members made it an easy job.
Am lovin the disco, had two weeks on Friday.
Thanks. Java Black Metropolis MY06

For the past 2 weeks I've noticed a really loud hissing coming from the bottom right (as you look at the car from the front) when in high revs.
A friend tells me that is the intercooler hose split.
Rather than start a new thread, is there a 'how to' thread I can familiarise myself with?
(I'm struggling to use the 'search' facility like a right bell!)
Thank you in advance

I've had all the same symptoms - smokescreen, down on power, hissing, and the Bong Of Death followed by emergency power mode...
So whipped it out today too find a three inch split, cleaned it up, wrapped it in parcel tape, and away we go. Looks like there'll be a few more quid heading TLOs way...
Pics in my gallery of the split. Access height is for girls.
