Allianz Extended Warranty

OK, so some of you would have seen my other post on saying good bye, and herein was the trigger.

Over the last 6 to 9 months I have had to shell out for the following because they were supposedly not covered by my extended warranty.
Right Middle Row seat belt retractor assembly - $550
Right and Left Lower control arms (both were replaced only 6 months prior - under the factory warranty)$1400

This week I got a call out of the blue from the service area of the dealer telling me "the part has arrived for your car, when would you like to book it in?." I was surprised because I didn't know I was waiting on a part, nor there was an issue with the car that had only been service 6-8 weeks ago.

Apparently I needed a new drive shaft seal, and despite my assertions that a 4 year old car with 75,000km on the clock should not require a new drive shaft seal, I was told that I'd be up for the full $3,600 to replace it.

My questions to everyone are;

* should I or the warranty have been picking up the tab for the above items?
* why would a vehicle need control arms replaced more often than it's tyres?, and
* what do you think I should do to help others who may be about to walk into the same rort I feel like I walked into?

I really feel like I have been mislead (when taking out the warranty), or lied to (when trying to claim)

Many thanks

Dan

Hi Dan,
Sorry to see you go.
Interesting with the warranty. I have 12 months left on my extended warranty and being based in Singapore for the last 14 months have only driven the car once since, on a brief return to Oz last Aug. I will be back next month to hop in the car again and go over it. Unfortunately only 1 LR place to take the vehicle in Darwin.
Darwin LR and not renowned for customer service and the son in law has the vehicle the rest off the time and is not mechanically savvy. I was thinking of heading to Brisbane to get a LR specialist to go over the car before warranty runs out but given your experience I will make sure I can claim before I authorise any work.
It has been such a great car I dont want to get rid of it and then have to replace it in the next 12 months.

Did see a nice Audi A7 here in Singapore today and at just under S$300,000 nearly got the credit card out.
Take the road less traveled. Dual battery system.ORS drawers,LR cargo Barrier.ARB Bull bar, side protection bars,Mickey Thompson ATR's 17" rims, Rear wheel carrier, radiator guard TPMS Mitchell Bros Tow Hitch LR RAI Steel Rims , GME UHF, Off Road GPS, Llams (yet to be fitted)

Moving the goal posts .........................

" I really feel like I have been mislead (when taking out the warranty), or lied to (when trying to claim) ".

They're not playing ball on anythimg they now consider " wear and tear/consumable " . I got the comp
fault light last year ; would replace the whole thing for free , or the gel canister for $200 ( no labour ) . Since the
canister was the problem , I paid . Seat belt retraction ; that's avoiding their responsibility. I got this
policy mainly because of diff/ZF/petrol engine faults tbh. ONLY a factory warranty is a reasonably full warranty.

" Right and Left Lower control arms (both were replaced only 6 months prior - under the factory warranty)$1400 "

Now this really bad ; what could wear in 26 weeks on bitumen !

If you have done less than 20,000klms since the last round of control arm bushes then everything should still come under the Land Rover Australia Parts Warranty as it lasts for 12 month OR 20,000klms. When I bought my extended warranty the service manager had no hesitation in telling me that some items won't be covered past 100,000klms as it is the "normal life expetancy" of those parts. I also found it interesting that the drier and valve kit for the air suspension compressor is regarded as a filter by Allianz, hence not covered!?!

They paid for the valve kit , and because that involved all the access work , the gel can.
was the only charge . The labour was covered under the waranty because the valve was covered.

I think the problemlies in "Alliance" rather than "Allianz" warranties. There are many out clauses for the Alliance product on the PDS.
I would still take your complaint to the insurance ombudsman. (did you buy through he dealer?) And the dealership as they sold it to you.
The dealer should have dealt directly with the warranty company. Not communicating regarding repairs. I would get a second opinion on repairs a dealer suggests. Which dealership?

Caver, I have the Allianz warranty purchased through Austral Land Rover. Same place that has basically told me "Not covered" as soon as I ask the question.

I will get round to putting my complaint in writing. I went to buy the VW through Austral as well, but they couldn't be bothered returning my call. Went in person, too busy, called again - nope still too busy. Found a business on the Gold Coast who couldn't do enough for us.

DiscoTom, Re, the bushes, I tried that and the dealer said point blank "Land Rover doesn't offer warranty on warranty repairs"

To which I replied, "So it is a warranty repair then?, he said "no, it's wear and tear....."

Dan you may want to change the subject line.
Allianz are usually good. Just had my bushes replaced (both ARB and control arm) along wit a steering rack and ARB rods. Sounds like the dealer is really bad, they do not know what they are doing or deliberately robbing you blind. Did they put in a claim or just told you it wasn't covered? I would write to the dealer principal and explain why you are not buying another one and cc LR Aust and the local paper. Idea
Also contact Allianz and find out your history of claims.

Wow, forgive me but I did not believe the parts warranty did not come through if the repair was done while still in new car warranty, but have just had that confirmed by someone at customer care. "As you did not pay for the parts they do not come with a warranty". They did say the dealer could apply for goodwill being a re-curring issue but maybe "someone" doesn't want too?!?

I'm surprised your seat belt didn't get replaced.
My drivers side rear passenger seat belt had a crack in the plastic of the seat belt clip.
I had the Allianz extended warranty at the time (now expired).
I told the dealer about it (eurocentral), they filled a claim and it was approved.

even had the steering wheel replaced (more a cosmetic issue with the horn cover peeling off the back) under the Allianz warranty.
had other kit like the intercooler, oil cooler, electronic park brake as well - never had a drama with any claims with Allianz.
luck of the draw possibly?

More likely poor dealer customer service.

Dan did you get a history from Allianz stating waht was refused?

Australia

There is the case of a guy on AULRO that had a piston meltdown due to a faulty injector - the "warranty" (don't if Allianz) would not pay for secondary damage - eg would pay for a new injector but not the new engine needed due to the meltdown.

I do not have the extended warranty - not sure whether that is smart or not - however looking at the experiences of others - the extended warranty seems to pay for some things but when it is really needed it fails to live up to expectations.
