Another warranty dispute...when does the LR warranty start |
|
According to my documentation it starts on the day it is delivered to the first retail customer or date first put into service if a Dealer demonstrator.
My car's history is that it was originally owned by Land Rover themselves (I think as a press car) and was sold at auction just over a year ago to Saxtons who then sold it to me. I was even able to reclaim the VAT when I exported it, as it had never been sold retail.
Now, LR say that my 3 year warranty expired because the first day that it went into service was back in 2008. My argument is that I am the first retail customer of the vehicle, it was not a dealer demonstrator and therefore it should only be a year or so into warranty.
Am vaguely considering small claims if I don't manage to resolve this...any thoughts from anyone?

Sounds like a long shot to me. My previous car was a G4 Disco which Land-Rover owned for its first 9 months or so. The warranty started from the date of first registration (i.e. the date Land Rover started using it).

It's an old car out of warranty, the warranty would start when it was used by LR as a press car, you don't stand a chance. Did you never ask about how much warranty it had? If you had and they had confirmed 3yrs at point of sale to you then yes, otherwise your a chancer having a laugh

I was going by what it said in the warranty booklet...it could be that LR have just not worded it very sensibly but in the same way that there are many cases where they will use the strict letter of the warranty to exclude claims, if they have worded it badly, then I have no problem with asking them to pay for it...

If I was buying one like that Warranty would be a major issue for me and I would have asked questions at the time, did you not ask?

it's a slow seatbelt retraction that has caused dents all along the drivers door trim.

Quote:The vehicle warranty starts on the day that the vehicle is delivered to the first retail customer and continues for three years unlimited mileage
This is the UK warranty statement. I would suggest that the definition of "retail customer" is what need to be clarified. If the dealer has purchased the vehicle and registered it to themselves as a demonstrator then although they are a retailer.... in this instance they could also technically be a customer. 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

DG -this is my reading exactly.
and there was no dealer - the first registered keeper on the V5 is LandRover Company Vehicles, Engineering Fleet Building, Gaydon Test Centre...
Apparently the car was 'pulled off the production line'

I see ...in that case you would need to clarify if "Land Rover Company Vehicles" is a seperate company to "Land Rover". 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

OK ....a call to LR customer care might resolve ...it's worth a punt 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Does the commencement of the warranty coincide with the date of first registration ? 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021
