Purchasing a New Disco 4 commercial |
|
Hello
Not sure if this is the right place to post this.
I am going to take the plunge and order a new Discovery 4 commercial.
I live in the Cambridgeshire area, but due to very bad experiences which I wont bore you with, I dont want to go to Marchalls.
Unfortunately, they seem to have all the L/R dealerships in this area. I dont want to use any internet sites either.
Can anyone point me in the right direction to a good dealer who is willing to give a good discount.
Thanks

are you getting a commercial so you can claim the VAT back or just because its commercial.
I looked at getting a commercial but when i added the "essentials" it came back more expensive that the XS and with lower spec.
there are somethings missing from the commercial that arent obvious such as there is no aircon/heaters in the rear. ie only the vents from the dashboard !! Duncan

I am getting the Commercial mainly to get the Vat back and reduce car tax as its going through my business. the majority of the time, it will be my work horse,
I didnt think an XS had Air Con in rear, isnt it fed from the front just like the commercial?
So long as the vents work in the back for when I use the occasional rear seats i am going to have fitted, I dont mind.
The only thing I cant have that I would like is a microwave cooker....I have one of those in my Scannia

the is no Rear Aircon (as in a seperate unit) but the D4s (and D3s) have vents to the row2 seats from the centre console and possibly from under the front seat buit I can remember.
In the commercial the Only vents are the 4 that come out of the dashboard so anyone or thing in row2 wont get and heat etc.. thats what I saw told ....
worth checking... it may be better value to get a GS but then you cant claim the tax back Duncan

Hmmmm
I need to check this out....I dont think I could ask the three kids...but more importantly, my two boxer dogs to get in the boot with no heating....
Things at first seem simple...then get more and more complicated.
I would dearly love to go for the GS, but not only would I lose the VAT, but it would cost me a fortune in personnal tax....

thats what put off me looking at a commercial. Even though I cant claim the VAT back thought it might be a cheaper option as we always have the seats down in the D3. The lack or heat/airflow in the rear for the dog, and the lower spec for more money put me off.
I could be totally wrong though and the new Commercials are different ?
can you not turn the GS into a commercial, get it re classified and then put the seats back in. A few people did that with the D3.
the heating may not be a problem. check with "ENT" I think he has a commercial that he has turned into a 5 seater and he has kids and a dog. but they are from up-north so accustomed to the cold Duncan

My D4 Commercial has the vents to the rear of the centre console box and they work fine......but I usually have them closed off to direct more air to the front 4 vents! Remember, Auto Climate Control is standard on all D4 models and always has been. 2016 Discovery 4 Commercial

panic over
I would double check with dealer before buying though unless the folk who told me were getting confused with "Rear Aircon" Duncan

Elsewhere on this thread, mention is made of the new N1 classified 5 seat Utility model that is now available over here in Ireland. The standard price of this is €54,000 including 23% reclaimable VAT (and 13% currently unreclaimable VRT). The only problem is that it is a very basic model, similar to a UK spec GS with the Bright Pack and leather seats fitted. The only option apart from Metallic paint (which a lot of stock cars have) is the Mid line Hi-fi (and again this is fitted to a lot of the stock cars), which gives you the bigger screen and a "NAV" button that does nothing when pressed!
I thought I'd post this up here simply so a price comparison can be made. The Irish Government are looking into a scheme which would allow for the VRT to be reclaimed upon export, but there is no mention yet as to when this may come into play. 2016 Discovery 4 Commercial

Claiming the vat back is great until you sell it and have to put it back on !

You won't be claiming any VAT back if you've got seats in the back - they come out and inspect 'em sometimes!

Mate of mine got inspected when it was 2 yrs old. Difficult to remove seats before inspection as they inspected when it was in a public car park one day. Had to pay all the VAT back + additional RFL for 2 yrs. That was a dear Commercial !!
Qwick - Ordered mine from Hunters in Norwich, good discount compared to other dealers when using NFU voucher. Being built at the moment. 11 RR 4.4 TDV8
