I really do hope that article is correct. It is nearly a year old and didnt reflect on the discussions that we had.
There was a question asked about if we would be happy if it wasnt constant 4wd and it was 2wd with a selector for 4wd.
I really hope they dont head down that path.
Could you imagine driving a 2.8tonne top heavy car in the wet in just 2wd. I'm sure the Stability control would be trying to keep it under control more often.....
Obviously photos of the defender have come out in magazines and what we were shown did reflect that for the defender. Which is keeping a utilitarian look and practicality. Disco 4 SE

No bad thing. Disco is a £30-40k car to me, not a £50k one.

Landrover would be crazy not to bring out the D5, given the success of the D3 & D4. Whether it would have the V8 diesel or not is another question. They wouldn't want to rob Range Rover sales.

Hopefully it won't have the V8 diesel. Instead the rumoured new 3 litre diesel electric hybrid capable of 50mpg around town and 80 g/km emissions........
The D5 is only worth bringing out if it is economical and affordable to run.... 2016 Discovery 4 Commercial

A 3ltr diesel electric hybrid may be 'economical' to run, but, being a Land Rover, you can bet it won't be economical to fix
I think LR would be crazy to drop the Discovery back to its utilitarian roots. They sell far far too many HSE Range Rover lookalikes to make that a sensible proposition. I was also under the impression that the RR brand was about to get pushed up another notch towards Bentley territory - the well appointed Disco satisfies the 'premium 7 seat 4x4' market rather well.
Although I do agree, the beige berber twill in a £55k car isn't something you would want to take through a ditch too often!

sounds like a shogun, surely landrovers strong point is that you dont have to stop and about and put it into neutral before engaging 4wd. Be a real shame if it did not keep permanent 4 wheel drive.

On our hiluxs you can switch from 2wd to 4wd up to 60Km/h IIRC, and change the range with just the clutch in. I never understood why (on the manual D3 at least) you had to clutch in - neutral -change range -change gear -clutch out. It's a drawn out process which kills your speed when lugging something heavy from a standing start.
Pretty sure the shogun has "super select" which means you can change on the move too. 2014 D4 XS

Cheaper than all Jap/Far Eastern equivalents, though.........

Not right back to basics no, but it has to be affordable none the less. Not everyone likes leather, but 8 way adjustable cloth seats would be a welcome addition. And things like the Navigation packages could do with being available across the range.... 2016 Discovery 4 Commercial
