Guys,
Any idea if it's possible to hire a landy for the week to explore a bit of your great country?
The wife's off to Durban tomorrow so I have a few days by myself.
Any help appreciated.. By the way a Toyota is also fine "you cannot teach stupid people to do clever things"

depends on how many days you have, and whether you want to stay overnight.
If this is your first time here, just pick a direction and head the out of joburg as fast as you can
If you have 3 days + days, Kruger Park is a must-see, 400km from JHB but they have just had floods and some of the facilities have been damaged
http://www.sanparks.co.za/about/news/default.php?id=1794
you can check availability and make reservations on their site as well
If you have more than a week, take a drive down to Cape Town (1500km)
If you only have 1-2 days Pilanesberg is a great option
http://www.pilanesbergnationalpark.org/
This all assumes you want to see wildlife
If you want to stay local, here are a few ideas:

Visted SA in 2010 and we used these guys - http://www.ajc4x4sa.co.za/. Family company I think, very helpful when we had a mechanical issue. Picked up the vehicles from joberg airport and dropped them off at the same place. Drove up Pilanesberg way (and then down and round the rest of SA) and had a great time. Saw everything but leopards over there. No idea how their prices compare but I would use them again in a heartbeat. Just my 0.02p.

I can second Lazarusmotors
Friend of mine works there for the hire company - if you want I can get him to contact you via e-mail - PM me
They have a big LR / Ford / Volvo / Mazda dealership so your support on the LR should be good.
When are you here ?
What do you want to see this time round - again wildlife ?
