Heated washers

Do these work automatically or do you have to have the heated screen turned on?

Flack, the information I have for the D3 is that they are controlled by external temperature and are linked to the wipers, there's no mention of the heated screen, is it different in the D4?

The heated washers are the same on both cars and on the D3 they only come on when you select the program switch for the heated screens funny enough I had to test some out yesterday to see if they worked...

I am not 100% sure the D4 is the same but I would be surprised if it was not as the the parts are the same, in fact I have D4 heated washer jets fitted to my D3....

Well thats something else I never knew. I thought they were automatic as well. So you have to switch on the heated front screen in order for the heated nozzles to operate ?

On D4's that are fitted with the heated front screen, the screen, heated washers and heated mirrors, together with the rear screen, all turn on automatically when the outside temp is below 5 degrees C, anyway, they will turn off after a few minutes but will come on again if the system thinks it is necessary.

So they are all automatic, to an extent!

Flack, I thought on the D3s they were as per this:

http://www.disco3.co.uk/gallery/albums/use...irrors.pdf

I have D4 heated nozzles on my D3 as well but maybe the difference is in the way they are controlled

Thats all correct in the document but mine would not get warm unless the program switch was on for the heated screen.. which is controlled by the HVAC, ATCM I used a touch temp probe so that I see if they worked or not..

D3 electronics mind boggling aren't they Confused

Ok I have to report back i have just been out to my car and done another test with the washer heaters still not getting hot without the program switch being on but i decided to check the mirrors with my hand held tempi probe and Censored me it showed a slight increase in tempi then dropped off again...

Now i posted earlier that i had heated washers and not heated mirrors well i have only had the car 6 years and the mirrors have never shown any signs of heating up so this test got me hooked on why it showed a heat change on the mirror as i thought they where not fitted on my car.

So i started to look around at all the connectors and plugs on my mirrors and washer circuit including the relays on the drivers side mirror harness i found a broken core in SJ210 wire the earth wire,my drivers side mirror casing has had crack in since i bought the car and thought nothing if it as mirror was ok and you could only see the crack when the mirror was folded back but this impact on the mirror must have damaged the core and it has failed.

So after repairing the wire on the mirror i tested the mirror out again with my tempi probe and it went up to 54 degrees Mr. Green Mr. Green ,So i thought right let the car cool down and then try just starting the car and not switch on the program switch and just see what happened and guess what the Censored Censored thing works in full auto now both mirrors steaming with heat and both washers jets 52 degrees on the tempi probe.. Razz Razz Razz Razz .

So Cooperman17 with you posting this question i now have nice warm mirrors and washers working in Auto and Nickj we have a 100% confirmed they work on auto...

I think we know more about Land Rovers than the manufacturers but then again I've had a (quite) few glasses of wine already so my judgement is extremely clouded... Very Happy

Hi

Just a quick question is the automatic function with the ignition switched on only or with the engine running.

Thanks

Jonathan
