Driving on the snow, tyre pressure?

I always thought you usually want to keep the normal pressure when driving on snow but I readr in a section here that it is better on the snow to keep a low tyre pressure.

What is the truth?

On a green road run in Scotland couple of years ago I was sliding around all over the place with the tyres at normal pressures. Reducing them down, especially at the rear, sorted it out. Thumbs Up

That sound new/weird to me as I always thought that by leaving the tyres at lower pressure you basically make them wider which is ok in the sand and maybe in other conditions but not good in the snow

Of course you are right Thumbs Up it was just an "academic" discussion

So you agree the lower pressure is better for snow?

Boyles law should take care of lower pressure when it's cold out. No need to lower them! Mr. Green

normal pressure works just fine.
I drove over quite a snowy mountain with tyres set at max pressure (six ppl plus bags) no probs at all

plus you don't want to slide into a kerb with soft tyres Very Happy Very Happy

also Pagoda some say it's Hooke's law (his assistant) and Boyle stole it... Very Happy
It is better to have and not need it then need and not have it.
