Heater fan always on!
My D3 '05 just presented me with a new challenge.... The heater/ventilation fan is on all the time! I can turn the manual dial, and the led's indicate speed up and down, but no change in the actual fan speed. I can turn the fan off, by either turning dial completely down or pushing the OFF button.
Is it the blower control module (BCM) failing?
I've also done the HEVAC self-test without any luck.
note: I had the car washed yesterday, and its freezing outside (-10C)

Could be a welded relay.........
Try a Hard reset & see if it's the control getting confused

And by a hard reset you mean, disconnect the battery for 20mins and try again, or...?

Hi Nightowl.
If you do a search...........
1. Turn off Car
2. Wait for Car to "go to Sleep"
3. Disconnect Battery leads Negative First
4.Cover Battery terminals with something Non-conductive EG old Towel
5.Join both Battery Leads together eg Use something metal spanner etc 30 seconds
6. Remove spanner thing
7. Remove Towel
8. Re-install Battery Leads Positive First
9. Restart Car
If this doesn't solve the issue, I'd be looking at pulling out the Fan Heater Relay & starting down that track....
Good luck

Ok, thanks for the guide-through....
Fan Heater relay...? But the fan can be turned both on and off just fine, its the variable speed control thats not working, hence my suspicion towards the Blower Control Module (BCM)....dosent that make sense?

Hi Jasper,
And now that I've read your post again.................Oooops
If the Hard reset doesn't fix it then I'd be looking at a trip to the (Stealer) ?? to get the Fault codes read & unit replacement from there.

Have you tried swapping the blower fan relay in the battery junction box with one with the same rating?Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

A few other threads on the HEVAC via the search:
Robbie wrote:
Ok, next step is the self test.
With ignition off press and hold the ECON & RECIRC buttons whilst turning ignition on (no need to start car).
The control module will then compare the current HEVAC actuator motor positions with the values stored in the module and will indicate an error by flashing the ECON LED.
If there are no errors, the LED will go out and the system will function normally.
To confirm that there are no errors, turn the ignition switch to the OFF position, then back to the ON position.
Observe the operation of the programmed defrost LED.
If there are errors present, the programmed defrost LED will flash and the system will attempt to calibrate itself.
Post results on here!

Once you have done the self test try a relay swap. It worked for me.

So, done the hard reset and the relay swap, but still no diffence....
When I turn the dial for manual setting, the led's follow, but the fan speed doesn't change. It seems it is always in some default mid setting, or off when the dial is turn all the way counter-clockwise.
How do I get access to the Blower Control Module, without taking too much apart...?

Just replaced the Blower Control Module (BMC), which is basically a variable fan resistor... And that did the trick!
I took me just under 30mins and cost 90£ in spares...
