EGRs blanked?
As my FCR is showing a EGR fault I'm thinking of blanking them on my 06MY (build late 2005). A couple of questions though before I go buying the kit from Pete Bell,
1. is it 'legal' to blank off because of the emissions stuff
2. how would I tell if they've already been blanked, or replaced?

No not illegal. Mot should be fine.
Only way to tell is if it's had the pipe removed (like Petes kits) or you take the pipe off to see if a blanking plate has been put in between the EGR and the top pipeBodsys Brake Bible

Ian,
Thanks, had a look at Pete's how-to manual so think I know what pipes these are. Is the whole process reversable... if things dont work out then can all the bits be successfully refitted?

If you look at Bell Auto Systems website the kit's less than £50. I'd rather replace than it fail at an inopportune moment. I think the car performs better.

So why can't you do this to a 57 reg car? I'd like to blank mine but have been told I can't?

@ mjom89
Think it'd something to do with the engine management system that's associated with the Euro4 engine, will throw up a hissyfit. Someone very knowledgable on this subject made a post on this within the last week IIRC.

TFC blanked mine earlier int he year and it sailed through its MOT last week, so I can confirm that its ok.

Same here, TFC blanked mine 2 years ago and it's not been a problem in 2 MOTs. They were blanked after 2 new EGR valves (2nd set of replacments) were fitted so hopefully they'll last a while yet. Cartainly they've lasted as long as the originals and longer than the the next replacements.

First job I did since buying my disco day after I got it absolutey hate egr systems they actually raise most emmisions just reduce nox and feed your engine with its own waste
Would you eat your own waste ?
Don't know if it made any difference to anything but I know my inlet won't get coked up anymore
Time wise hour and half not hard slightly tricky to get to bolts used 3/8 drive as slightly handier than 1/2drive and shoving rags down is a must to stop loosing anything
The only thing about pete's kit that I didn't like was that it was all stainless and my magnet on a stick was no good for locating the hard to place blanks
I re used my bolts they were fine
If I did another I would expect it to take about 45 mins now I have done 1 very easy in all reality

I used the blanks of ebay just two small plate's that sit in the joint, easy to do but as above use plenty of rags to catch droped itemsNow Renault Trafic
