Towing, is auto or manual best? |
|
Hi all, thinking of buying a disco3 for towing twin axle caravan, would auto or manual g/box be the best for this purpose?

Auto because it has command shift - best of both worlds
Mine's in command shift most of the time when towing the caravan, and in command shift on motorways anyway.

Another vote for auto.
I used to tow a twin axle van with a manual D2 and thought that was pretty good. Now I've got an auto D3 and it's just a much more relaxing drive.

I have towed caravans since 1969 with a variety of cars. Autos since 1977 other than a LR Discovery Tdi 200 which was not available with auto. As far as I am concerned it is AUTO all the time.

Bought my D3 Auto back in the summer for exactly the same reason - to tow my 28ft twin axle. What a piece of cake, the auto makes it so easy.

We have a twin axel van 1800kg fully loaded and had the D3 remaped for better torque. This has made the auto superb to tow with; give your left leg a holiday and forget the manual.

Another vote for Auto. As has already been stated earlier in this thread, you have Command shift on the auto anyway - so best of both worlds My17 Volvo XC90 Inscription
MY15 Mitsubishi L200 Barbarian
RGK Tiga Fx Wheelchair,
Large Alsation called Abbs
Medium blue Staffie called Piglet
Medium Alsation called Bailey
