changed sidelights to leds and found another light fitting
I changed my front side light bulbs for the LED type that are advertised on this site. The are very bright and I am very pleased with them. Whilst I was changing them I noticed another light fitting with no bulb of the same type so I put the old bulb in it to see it worked and it did. How ever the place where this one was is blanked off and on the other side of the blank off was the orange lense. Is this fitted on other models not for UK use, ie it would light up orange if the plastic at the end of the lamp was broken open. anyone know why these are here ??Landrover Discovery 3 TDV6 S 7 seat Automatic

us spec. seems blooody stupid to me that they go to the expense of putting the bulb holder and mould to hold it but dont drill out the lense. it gives you an orange side marker - making the car much easier to see from the side. why would we only think its a good idea to do this where the law says it must be - bit like TPMS that is law in the US

I've drilled out the blank in the light unit and fitted a bulb. Like HIDS says gives an extra light!

I've never been stopped for having them on, it's not like having dazzling fog lamps on. It's just difficult to get a drill to it, and if you do drill it, you might end up with debris in the bottom of the light housing so try and just a hoover whilst drilling.

I doubt it will be illegal .... orange side marker lights are a requirement on vehicles over a certain length.
I deal with Transit sized minibuses on a regular occurance - these need side markers [and a Disco isn't much shorter] Guns and Landrovers ..... anything else is irrelevant.

No need to drill them, just heat up a drill bit and melt your way through.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

Our (UK registered, Italian built) 2008 Transit based motorhome has orange LED markers both sides, front, middle & back and it's just passed it's MOT, so I doubt orange side marker lights are illegal anywhere in Europe at least.

The orange one's on the NAS front light don't appear to be illegal as orange side markers are perfectly fine under the lighting regs....the red ones on the NAS rear lights are technically a no-no in the UK as they project to the side ...nobody has ever stopped me because of them though 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021
