Sluggish performance all the time - Any ideas?

My 2006 D3 starts OK but is very sluggish. We live on a hill and I have to park it facing downwards beacuse it just won't pull itself up the hill.

Have to use a fair amount of slippling the clutch before it gets going and suddenly - Whoosh and picks up.

This happens all the time - even when warmed up.

Friend who has a disco puts 'Deep Clean - Fuel System Clean' in the fuel tank.

It's an american product and states it's for petrol engines so I'm naturally cautious.

Any ideas/help or known problems would be appreciated.

p.s. Not getting any warning messages on the dashboard.

You should not have to do that bud there is definitely something wrong somewhere you need to start with the basics when was it last serviced and what was changed, you need to look at the inter-cooler pipes for splits, check the MAF sensor, air filter. just for starters then I would get it on a diagnostic bit of kit to check for any fault codes.

Oh and never put any product in a diesel car that's made for a petrol engine.

Could be your EGR valves on the fritz?

Mine was getting ever more sluggish until I got mine blanked off All things shipping, storage, transport. UK and worldwide.

Serviced 6 months ago - no problems found - will take it back to the garage.

Was hoping you would say 'put some STP in the tank and it will all be fine' but then realised I've got a landrover.

Wil let you know how I get on!

I'm with Dave on this one...sluggish performance at low revs is very often a sign that one (or both!) of the EGRs are fooked.

Being a 2006 (assuming it isn't a very late one), you should be able to just blank them off and forget about it. (although getting them changed is probably the best, although much more expensive, option). 2006 Discovery 3 TDV6 SE Auto Buckingham Blue

Blank them off as yours in an 06, and no more EGR issues ever again

EDIT: I would be wary of slipping the clutch too much. If you need to, use low box to pull away to stop wearing out the clutch until it is fixed
