Engine out through bonnet - now there's a challenge !! ?? |
|
Oh dear, oh dear,
Popped into my local garage today to find a very sick 57 plated D3 on the ramp. Timing belt tensioner gave up the ghost at 81K and has goosed the engine totally (camshaft in more bits than a Lego starter kit).
Naturally, I thought I'd take a look see - the mech is trying to take the engine out through the bonnet. So far has removed the auto box, exhuast and a whole host of other peripherals. He's adamant that it will come out but sure looks to be the difficult way of doing things; been on it all day so far ( I read in other posts here that the body can come off in less than 3 hours ? ).
So, any pearls of wisdom we should be sharing
Must admit, its made me think about changing my belts early - I'm at 79K and don't much fancy the thought of it all going bang

Why doesn't he just lift it, does he not realise how easy (relatively) it is with a 2 post lift? Bodsys Brake Bible

Thought this was all down to cambelt tensioner failure...........until it was stripped that is The casing casting has failed and the tensioner has been completely lost resulting in total engine failure.
57 plater and 81k miles.
An obvious manufacturing fault but true to form, neither LR or the local stealer want to know even though it's only 3 months out of warranty.
I've got some pics I'll post this evening, enough to send a shiver down your spine.
