Search function limited to 1 page |
|
Not sure if it's just me that has this issue.
I've used the search function a lot when researching faults and fixes etc for my D3, and as usual can't say enough how useful the site is for that type of stuff. It's almost certain that if you have a problem somebody else will have already had it and found a fix or two.
Anyway, I appear to be limited to one page of search results.
Often more pages are hinted at as a '2'3' etc appears at the bottom of the first page, but when click any number I get a message along the lines of 'No topics or posts met your search criteria'.
The First page is OK, but no pages past that can be displayed.
Is it just me?
Thanks

Don't feel victimized I've just done a search under "sidelights" and got four acessible pages.

It's not just you. Happens a lot to me. Sometimes 9 or 10 pages are shown at the bottom but soon as i click on page 2 no joy

This seems to only happen if you have a "New Posts" window (which is a search) on refresh. The site can (currently) only hold details on one search per member, so as soon as the New Posts page refreshes it overwrites the details of the previous search you've done.
If anyone's experiencing this and doesn't also have New Posts on refresh then do let me know.

OK, what happens if you do a search, and immediately Ctrl+Click and open pages 2,3,4...etc on new tabs? 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

Hi.
Just tried it.
The new tab for page 2 just has the header etc and the 'No topics or posts met your search criteria' message.

Hi.
Did you ever have any more thoughts on this?
Or can I assume you didn't get anywhere because you didn't reply again?
Thanks

Thought I'd bring this back to the top as it's still really P155ing me off.
Martin , did you ever look into it any more?
Or did you give up?
Thanks

Hi Nasher,
No I hadn't given up, I thought I'd sorted it Will look again.
From a technical side, what it happening is that the site caches your search to give you quick access to pages 2, 3, 4 etc. However something else is deleting that cache before you get a chance to visit another page 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

You can check this by doing your search then immediately clicking onto another page of results, it'll work fine.
Leave it a few minutes though and it won't. 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

OK I've double checked this from the code side, and tested what the code is doing and it should only clear the cache 10 hours after a search
This used to be 1 hour but I changed it a while back so I cannot work out why it's not working. 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

Just been having a play.
When I search for a phrase or what ever, I always put it in speech marks.
ie "LED lights"
As on every other forum I use the instruction is to do this to match an exact phrase.
I've just discovered that if I don't use the speech marks I can access all the pages of the search results.
That's obviously what I've been doing wrong, I must have dreamt that the speech marks were also required here.
Big Sorry.

The speech marks WERE required before the change to the new search system, but don't think they are necessary now to get results.
I'll see if I can replicate what you're seeing with quotes and get back to you 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

Right, I think I've fixed this bug, caused by the cached results not storing the double quotes properly. 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti
