Wheel Rim Damage
Hi All,
I don't do many post but always read on a regular basis.
I am after some advice with some wheel rims. My local tyre shop brought this rim damage to my attention. they say they are scrap and I agree. I cover a lot of motorway miles and a fair few long distance trips. I do not feel comfortable with these rims fitted to my disco and I am currently sourcing some replacements - Thanks to redjelly5000
My rims currently fitted to the car have done 120,000 miles and do not have this damage on them-
I purchased these second hand and they were supposed to be my set of wheels for winter tyres.
what is everybody elses opinion???
Picture number 4 the rim doesn't look so bad ???
One picture is a duplicate I can't remember which one, there are only 4 wheels

Difficult to tell from photos, but last photo looks a bit bad.
I have some 17inch rims you can have - £50 each Duncan

I got a set of 4x new (well, they'd done 50 miles) RRS 17" rims for £200 for my winter tyres, so they are out there.____

Difficult to tell from the images, but is the inner rim a smaller diameer than the outer?
If it is, then that is a fairly major issue, and I wouldn't be trying to sell them on at all.

So you would happy sell something that you feel is unsafe on
TBH the pics show nothing seen a lot worse than that

Thanks for that. Many people on here, other forums, clubs and general public with D3's buy on Ebay.
If you think they are not safe / good to use yourself would you be happy to pass onto other unsuspecting Discovery owners?.

I would not be happy selling them to anybody else eBay or anywhere else
I purchased them from eBay and hope that the person that sold them to me was unaware of the damage
My concern is if this is normal???

It's definately not normal - looks like the inner rim has melted (?)
Is my idea that the inner rim appears to be a smaller diameter than the outer rim just an optical illusion?

The inner rim has indeed completely worn away
Not an optical illusion
It does not look melted it looks rubbed by the tyre
The tyre shop (small local place who I have used for a long time) I trust there opinion suggest under inflated or completely flat tyres

Bit moody if you ask me, i wouldn't want to put somebody else at risk if i didn't think safe to use myself!!
Dont do it, if you feel they are un safe, get advise, get them x rayed for cracking etc, if they pass that they can probably be repaired, then keep them or sell on knowing they will be fine for a new owner!
THE END!!!

I've seen at least 3 different sets like this, not bits hanging off, but badly worn. Now after changing my tyres recently I noticed that mine have done this too. After this set of tyres, I won't be putting another set on. It'll be new wheels all round. I wondered if I should use them now, but decided with the additional opinion of the tyre fitter that they would last one more set of tyres.
Anyone got any ideas what's causing this? Mine are all worn equally, and I never run them flat or even soft. The strangest thing is, on all the sets I've seen, it's only ever in the inside edge. The outside edge is perfect. Those who think running flat is the cause, why would this only happen on inside rim?D3 TDV6 HSE 2008 Buckingham Blue (current)
