Gap Insurance Questions
Hi Guys,
I'm about to take delivery of a brand new D4 HSE. I'm planning to keep it several years and I'm considering gap insurance, but I've got a few questions:
1. Gap insurance value: lots of policies ask you to specify a maximum payout value. What should I estimate as book value for a 4 year old D4?
2. Restrictions on use: do gap insurers restrict what you do in your vehicle? i.e. off-road use ok?
Is there anything else I need to consider? Any recommended providers?
Thanks!D4 HSE, Active Rear Diff, surround cameras, adaptive xenons, heated steering wheel, TPMS, remote park heating, centre console cooler box

Don't pay what they quote you at LR. You should be able to beat them down at least 50%.Welcome "Lola"

Just looked at what I think is his site (gapinsuranceuk) and the T's & C's excludes a 'Vehicle which has been modified in any way from the manufacturer's specification'. That seems a bit crazy - add a Blackvue or sump plate... but later it does say any modifications will be excluded from the purchase price for valuation. I'll send him a pm to ask for clarification.
I also looked at gap2go, but they exclude 'Vehicles used for ... off-road use...' so they are off the list (despite being very very cheap).D4 HSE, Active Rear Diff, surround cameras, adaptive xenons, heated steering wheel, TPMS, remote park heating, centre console cooler box

Due at dealers by 17th, they have to do PDI and deliver to the broker, surely the time scale is now finite!
Do you reckon anyone is up for a meet this side of Christmas?D4 HSE, Active Rear Diff, surround cameras, adaptive xenons, heated steering wheel, TPMS, remote park heating, centre console cooler box

Gap direct T's & C's look ok for off-road use. Price for replacement over 4 years is reasonable, 5 years somewhat pricey.

Kam has come back to me (via underwriter) and said that these modifications and 2nd battery are fine.
One thing concerns me still:
Quote:
Offer of Settlement:
If you accept an offer under Your Motor Insurance Policy of less than the current Insured Value of the insured Vehicle then We reserve the right to assess the loss at the current Insured Value.
This worries me slightly as you set the Insured Value at least at the market value at the point of taking out insurance; however insurers always pay out on current market value, which a whole year later on a new car will be significantly less - easily £5k or more.D4 HSE, Active Rear Diff, surround cameras, adaptive xenons, heated steering wheel, TPMS, remote park heating, centre console cooler box
