Help - Advise needed very large bill from LR approved garage |
|
Hi Advise please
I bought a used Discover 3 TDV6 SE A Registered Nov 2006 from a LR dealer I purchased this at the end of October 2010 ( last year ) the car had done 66k when purchased the car has now done 76k
Before I purchased I told them that I wanted the Anti Roll Bushes done and a full service and MOT.
They told me they had done that .
Had a phone call yesterday saying that the car had failed the MOT due to the following ( forgive me as I know nothin about these things )
Front and Rear Anti Roll Bushes - Track Roll End - Innerseal Leaking - Offside Bushes - Rear Discs and Pads - Oil Seal - High Pitch Horn ( Some of these tihings were picked up on the service ).
I told them that I have the Full land rover warrenty for failure of MOT - They said that some of the things are covered on the warrenty for MOT failure but the others are classed as normal wear and tear items.
I have to pay £1300 to get this all fixed ( thats apart from paying £700 for the extended warrenty 4 months ago ).
I told her that I purchased the car 1 year ago and had done 10k miles and it is ridiculous having so many things wrtong with it in such a short space of time, she said that it is not unusual for the pads and discs to go after 10k as it is a heavy car and especially if you are towing, surely the discs and pads are built for this type of purpose on this type of car /
I plan to complain about this to the person I bought the car from

Discs and pads normal the rest should be under warranty. Did they do the mot? They may be overservicing. discs may be ok.
Seemsa lot for discs and pads. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Hi Thanks for the quick reply - But should they go after 10k miles ? They did the MOT and told me it had failed due to all these things they wanted permission to fail the car as they could not do the warrenty without doing an mot failure report.

If ARB had been replaced 10,000 miles ago these should not need replacing so I would query that. Other than that things where out and short journeys cause more wear and tear. Price does seem steep though.
Send TFC an email and see what he can do.

Permission to fail the MOT????????? I've never heard of that before.
Discs are easily done yourself, see Bodsy's brake bible, or yes TFC is very highly recommended around here

I might be missing the point here but did you ask for pads and discs to be done when it was bought. They might have been already on the car for 10k miles so were ok at point of sale but 12mths and 10k later they need replacing

If the work hasn't been done yet, I'd take it away and get a second opinion elsewhere.
Doesn't sound right to me, especially the bushes. Someone's not telling you the whole truth, either the servicing garage or the dealer who sold you the car.
