Worrying vibration!
Hi guys! I was hoping to pick the brains of the forum. I have just changed tyres and since then I have had a vibration that only appears at certain speeds.... Mostly high speeds ie 80 mph. I have been back to have tyres re bLNced but it hasn't solved the problem. The vibration seems to go through the whole cAr with anything not bolted down shaking all over the place Strangely no real vibration coming through the steering wheel at all though.... Any thoughts or have I just set my seat massager to a setting that is too high?

I had this - seemed to be set off by a certain stretch of road which was odd.
It was caused by binding park brake shoes, had rear discs and EPB shoes replaced and all was well.
Others have reported sticking/jammed brake calipers causing this too.
Do you get a squeak/squeal when driving along, particularly after about 20 miles or so?06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti

Yes, Park brake sticking would be my first thought. When it happens, stop and carefully check how hot the hub portion of the rear disc brake is, on mine it turned white as the paint burned off!

did it not do this before - or have you just started driving above 70 with new tyres
might be worth standing over the fitters shoulder and ask him to rebalance the wheels if its just started after have new tyres fitted. I did and before they got them to 0,0 on the machine he had 5 attempts. some give up after 2

I've had the same problem. It turned out to be the EPB. Replaced the entire system, and in the same go had replaced all disks and shoes. Brand new breaking system so to speak....

For most it turns out to be the EPB shoes. For the remaining others it tends to be off-roading mud stuck to the wheels (clearly not in your case), wheel balance, harmonic dampers snagged on PDC loom (although one chap found his had been deliberately tied back), frozen water in the wheel (I kid you not), loose spare wheel, loose road wheel/hub, brake calliper issues, damaged tyre before the thankfully rare suspension damage.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

I agree with all the above EPB comments, I had the exact same symptoms and it turned out to be a sticking epb, cause the car to judder/vibrate alarmingly
The good news though, not a hugely expensive fix

If the vibrations are that bad, chances are the pads are now shot to hell, so worth getting a set just in case for when yer man takes the rear hubs off and the brake pads fall apart in his hands.......... member of the "been there done club"

Yep I agree I replaced mine both side, they were munched! It was only one side stuck but it made the car judder nastily at random.

My garage changed a worn wheelbearing and track rod end thinking this was the problem not that I was bothered they needed doing so at least they found a problem. I think it was through trolling here that I got the notion it may be the EPB then walked into the garage and told them to take a look at it and sure enough one set of munched pads and a sticking EPB
It wasn't a lucky couple of months lol shortly after I was off to pick up a spare set of wheels bought from a forum member and my rear nearside brake caliper jammed on, there was no juddering or tell tale signs that time, not even dragging or slowing, but two thirds of the way there and it made itself known, as the metal backing plates ate the disk with a horrid "this'll cost you" sound
The drive home was very careful only braking when really really needed but I knew the disc was going to need replaced so it was only for safety that I kept speed off and let the gearbox do the worst of the braking.
Ah well these things happen, just so long as they don't happen again any time soon
