255 50 19 or 255 55 r19

Hi Guys

Any help on this please. Looking at upgrading my wheels and tyres on my 2007 Disco. i have fitted HSE 19" wheels with 255 55 19 scorpion tyres. Im looking at getting new 19" (RR vogue) alloys with 255 50 r19 scorpions tyres.

Would i suffer any problems with speedo calibration etc or am i just worrying about nothing.

Any pointers would be appreciated guys, or should i stick with the size i got for snow etc?

Thanks

Edd 8)

I would never fit smaller tyres personally, they look wrong, may have too low a load rating and will make the speedo over read, albeit only by a fraction.

Thanks Andy. It is a hard decission to make as i know the Disco sits higher than the RR sport.

255 55 19 i would say
50 is what the sport profile is
its a sportier ride but harder
i like my arm chair softness of the d3

Apart from the ride do u think it would make any other difference to the running of the car in snow or mud.

I'm In a right dilemma!

Also Would they look odd on the Disco 3?

Thanks

Edd

i run sport with the 55 profile

5% of 255 is bug-ger all as far as looks go

you give up a few mm of wall so this is less good for off rosding but in reality he sport aint bad off road - hence makes bug-ger all difference. the tread pattern will have more influence

unless you have a deal on 50s i would stick with 55

255-50-19 are 3.3% smaller in overall rolling circumference so you just might alter the handling of the D3 if that's altered then you might have insurance implications Whistle

sure - it would handle better so guess you would get a discount Whistle

do the maths on the 255 50 19 and 275 40 20 - LR allow some tolerance themselves

The one issue of course some like to worry about is the load rating - the sport being 107 and D3 111

But i wouldnt worry about either

See your a tyre expert now Ian Thumbs Up

275/40-20 is even smaller 4.6% smaller and this size is not a D3 size should be 275/45-20 Thumbs Up

Enough said Edd do whatever you feel happy with Thumbs Up

Just lucky enough to have a sport and D3 and driven both cars with different set up

Those tyre sizes are for the RRS showing what range LR fit as standard but now you got me thinking is it 40 or 45 Embarassed

I have a little spreadsheet that gives me total diameter for many sizes for 19 and 20 inch tyres as I have had tried many set ups over Thumbs Up

quite a few of us run wheel/tyre setups that are none standard, but in general, its the weight rating that I think most of us take the most seriously. I certainly dont want my 2.7 tons sitting on something that might not be quite up to what I need. 255/50's are very likely to be 109 rated at best, 107, or even 103. Why not stick with 255/55x19's at 111.

Thanks gentlemen for advise.

Decided not to go for them as i was thinking the same, happy at the moment with the 255 55's so will wait for another set to come up with same tyres.

I know its only a 3% difference but to us men size matters even 3%! lol

Is there really that much of a difference in the load ratings? I would have thought a rrs and a d3 weigh about the same! I certainly don't intend ravelling at the speed rating increase the change in model brings. Question
