There are no specific site rules for sale agreements provided they are legal. It is up to the seller to make clear if they will only accept offers in a certain manner but in general it will be via a mixture of sources. I would suggest that prospective purchasers should assume nothing until a formal acceptance of their offer has taken place. 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

I guess a seller can sell to whoever they wish at the end of the day however it does nothing for the sellers credibility and reputation on here if taking events as stated folk get gazzumped in this way ......
I thought all interest should be openly declared on the thread for transparency for all and agree Twaney Owl that I thought this was how we did business on the forum
Like you I have been gazzumped at least 6 times this year and frankly is really p s me off.......
The dynamic on here has really changed in the last 6 months and not for the better it has to be said, I know other folk feel the same way.
Sorry Martin but folk are starting to abuse this fantastic forum you provide ......

Sorry tawny I have tried to be as fair as possible and you were the third person to contact me? These are now sold it would be unfair to overlook those who contacted me before you. I appreciate your disappointed but on occasions I have been too with other things.
I believe I could not have been much fairer than I have and if the buyer had fallen through you would have been next inline, and so on

We have recently been addressing undermining for sale posts Simon as you may have seen . It is exceptionally difficult to police offer acceptances especially where contact had been made by means other than open forum...but I would like to think that gentlemanly conduct occurs in the vast majority of sales. 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Just no pleasing some people as I've said I have tried to be as fair as I can sorry if people have had an issue with fairness! If the shoe was on the other foot I'm sure you'd do the same.

Bully - this discussion no way inferes you have done anything wrong BTW ...you have made clear how you proceeded and that is perfectly acceptable and fair enough in my eyes 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

Guys, I've split this to a new thread so it doesn't clutter the FS forum.
Whatever rules are applied, the simple fact is people either ignore or work around them. A ban on contact regarding FS items via PM would be absolutely impossible to police, as the PM system can't be limited depending on message content! Forcing sellers not to sell to a buyer would be unworkable too.
The "gentlemen's agreement" about using the public forum to reserve items is similarly flawed as those who don't know about it can drop in a PM without the knowledge of others who have used the public forum.
In your case Simon, you buy and sell a lot of items on here, so your experiences can't all be bad? At a guess I would say you'd have many more problems on other sales sites?
Yes there are always cases where the parties who miss out on items feel aggrieved, but in any environment where there are a limited number of items and multiple potential purchasers then it's all that can be expected.
My recommendation is that if you're after something, stick a post on the forum AND send a PM. But be aware that items can be sold before you read an ad, only in an auction situation can transparency be guaranteed. 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti
Any issues with the site let me know!

Fair play Martin ..... take on board your comments - cant be easy to keep a balance on such matters.
Agree that most of my selling/buying experiences on here are very positive and hope that by providing items at good prices below the norm folk have gained by that ... I don't generally sell elsewhere preferring to offer where folk will benefit the most and return the goodwill ones have given myself over the years.
I guess to conclude on this all I was expressing were my recent experiences and what I saw as a growing trend ....... Nothing more than that .
