Fitting Factory Sat Nav: I'm dreaming right ? |
|
Is this possible ? I'm fed up with connecting wires to PDA solutions and waiting ages for the system to find the satelites plus the ergonomics is naff.
But I guess I'm dreaming to think that it is possible to add a LR factory (HSE) type to my SE.

I don't know, but you could get other fixed sat nav systems installed for much less than the LR one. Matt

We have a number of VDO MS5000 units
You can pick them up at varied prices .
I can guarantee they are accurate i have one in my Disco3 mounted exactly where the factory fit unit is(Which in my opinion is naff)

I'm looking forward to installing something in the line of new Samsung Q1 or Asus R2H and have a GPS receiver wired to it... it seems like it will just fit in the place originally set up for the SATNAV system. Failing this, I think I will go for a touch screen that fits there, and setting the UMPC as "CPU" in the upper glovebox.
On the plus side, apart from having street navigation (TomTom and the like), off road navigation (OziCE) and a bunch of other computer-related functions, the process of updating software, maps and all the stuff is pretty much straightforward... and the possibility of connecting this PC to the car's OBD... OK, OK, now I'm dreaming...
I plane to have it done around march, next year. PG'ed

Take a look at my gallery, you will see the screen of a VDO Dayton MS5100 satnav, it fits perfectly where the LR satnav locates. The CD computer unit fits under the passenger seat, together with the TMC receiver. I am about to upgrade to the VDO 5200 SD card driven system, with faster response times. See it at the VDO Dayton website. VDO satnav systems regularly appear on Ebay. *Disco3 7-seat Auto
