Front diff = is it about to go? |
|
I've had a whine for a while now coming from the front end, its been into my local indy who checked the front diff oil and said that the oil looked metallic, so thought the diff was on its way out, but suggested to drive it until it breaks essentially
I've no started to develop other problems and wondering it they are all diff related:
-When doing full lock low speed manoeuvres it feels and sounds like the left front wheel is skipping
-When breaking the front left wheel seems to drag and it pulls the car to the left
-If you come of the accelerator say when approaching a junction, the car seems to slow down more than usual (without breaking) like its dragging
-It seems like you have to give it more beans to get it going; again like its dragging
-If you come off the accelerator say if you see traffic ahead, no matter how delicate you do so, there is a jerk through the car/transmission
Does this all sound diff related

Hi Ade,
I had my front diff changed on Monday this week and out of the symptoms you describe I got the following -
1) Whining noise
2) If you come off the accelerator say when approaching a junction, the car seems to slow down more than usual (without breaking) like its dragging
3) It seems like you have to give it more beans to get it going; again like its dragging
Prior to it going in I was advised not to drive it very much.
Regards,
YTA

Whining noise....especially after taking my foot off the accelerator, and a very pronounced judder while turning at low speed with full lock were my symptoms....even more so while full-lock reversing
This is going to sound daft, but on full lock it felt like a car with no diff ie the front wheels were trying to rotate at different speeds......got a mate to have a look as I was doing it and the inside wheel was indeed "skipping"... "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...
