Hi all,
Well we're going up to Durham at the weekend, with a possible visit to Hadrian's Wall at Twice Brewed in Northumberland. Having looked at the excellent online map (link provided here) I've spied a fairly straight BOAT just below Twice Brewed.
I've sent an email to the contact on the website to see if it is officially open and if there are any TRO's etc.
But does anyone here have any local knowledge of the lane. How tricky, passable, what it involves? - D3 owner, of course.
Many thanks,
Richard.

Hi George,
Yes - that's the map I looked at. What a great map. It's a shame every county doesn't do that...
Richard.

BTW....I bought a set of 4 LR wheels and tyres on ebay on Sunday evening. Arranged delivery through parcel2go.com who used DHL. The wheels were collected Monday in rural Kent and delivered to me in rural Northumberland on Wednesday morning. Effortless. And the total cost was only £31. I think that is fab value for money. That area has a good few lanes which are very straightforward. Indeed most show signs of having been tarmaced in decades gone by but not maintained for years so the tarmac is largely gone. Locals use some of them as shortcuts and driving them is straightforward (almost dull). There is a fairly easy route from just west of Newbrough that runs towards the west along the north side of the tyne valley to the lane you have pointed out. Just follow the brown lines on the online maps (with a bit of yellow lanes to join them up).
The harder lanes are on the South side of the Tyne Valley. Some of these will be very wet, sticky and slippy (but very adventurous). But again they are on the map you are looking at. Look at Langley Castle area and you will see the routes East and West from there. The other good area is Slaley Forest (but that is my back garden so please tread quietly there).
The online map gives details of all TRO's and claims etc. Look at the "path closures", "path details" and "claims register" to get the definitive news on the status of each lane. Disco 4 TDV6HSE

Even better value if you can find some kind soul via the courier network to bring them up when they are coming "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

Thanks V Much Jan, much appreciated!

GLRO sent some information on a route through Northumberland... we only had time to try one leg of the route (near Ingram) but had problems with the FL2 grounding. The ruts were quite deep and the grinding noises were very unsettling As you slide down the banister of life
