500 miles on the D4 - But........

Make no mistake, the D4 MY12 is the most superb bit of kit. There is no other vehicle that comes close IMHO. But, there is one serious disappointment. The turbo-lag is as bad as the D3!! When slowing down then accelerating again it can take a good couple of seconds before the revs pick up and by that time you have added some pressure to the juice pedal so when it does kick in, there's an almighty lurch. I suspect I will get used to it but I shouldn't have to. Even the dealer said that this had been eliminated Crying or Very sad

So, MY12ers, are you getting the same issue or do I have a fault?

Cheers

Our 2011 January built D4 is fine! But then I do not expect it to react like a racing car.

Unnecessary quote removed

Nothing to do with looking for racing car qualities. This is normal driving, for instance approaching a junction then deciding it's safe to go but finding nothing under the pedal for a few seconds. Can be unnerving if you are trying to join busy traffic.

Are you sure it's turbo lag and not the adaptive gearbox selecting the wrong cog when you want to move after slowing down? Mine did this for a while when it was new, but has slowly got better as I've put more spirited miles on the clock. I know mine's only the six speed but maybe they react in the same way until they've adapted to your style? Try driving in sport mode around town and see if it improves at all?

Never get these delay problems - either driving solo or towing - from what you say there is something wrong with your D4 and needs sorting by the dealer.

I got mine on 1st July and have sometimes had the same problem as you describe, I also had it to start with on my D3 when I first got it also, but then realised it my driving style. What I mean is, if your right foot is still ever so slightly putting the smallest amount of pressure on the brake pedal and the gas at the same time it confuses the whatever gizmo that controls such things. If that makes any sense. Thumbs Up

That is the way it is with previous MY. I was told on another thread that it is not turbo lag but a protection on the gearbox.

Could be just getting used to your driving style. I've been driving mine pretty fast since new, and now it holds gears for longer than expected.. It definitely has much less turbo lag than D3 and if it seems sluggish after a week maybe you should get it checked out
