Engine hunting after fuel filter change

Just serviced my 2006 D3 and for the first time I've changed the fuel filter (130000kms) turned it over after fitting the new filter and it ran for a few seconds then stopped. OK - so there is air in the system, so I found the bleed valve on top of the engine and purged it. OK - engine starts and idles fine. Took her for a spin and now the engine "hunts" on acceleration at about 2000 revs. Again I purged the valve, but no air.
Anyone know if there is any more bleed valves ? or other way of getting all the air out of the system, or have I kicked off some other fault ?
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks
Phil

Hi roastbeef (Great name Thumbs Up )

Worth checking the pipes have been put on the correct way , easy to make the mistake and this would cause problems. No more bleed points btw Thumbs Up

fuel filter

Hi
Did you use an original filter as sometimes after market. Filters can cause problem s
Did you cycle the ignition 30 times without starting if not you have got air in the system
Cheers

The D3 is a self prime system with a spill off back to the tank., I would go for its sucking in air make sure the seals are all ok and the filter bowl is on good and seated well.
I have changed loads of fuel filters and never had to do anything special just turn the key on waited 20-30 secs before starting it.

Flack Thumbs Up

This is one of two things first check the high and low pressure hoses aren't crossed and if this is correct change for a new filter genuine spare.
Had this issue you describe and the filter solved it
Hope this helps

fuel filter

Hi
it is self prime but a LR. Tech told me not to crank it to get the fuel through
but to cycle the ignition 30 times as there ids primes the system for them
Cheers

30 times is a bit excessive.

I leave the ignition on for 30 secs, and repeat 3 times. Plenty of time for it to bleed itself Thumbs Up

Thanks guys, I changed the hose connections today just in case I'd got it wrong, but no, that made it MUCH worse. So it must be the filter - it was a Mann filter (yellow and green box) so I'm of to the dealers tomorrow to get a genuine one.
Cheers
