EPB and off-roading

Yes, by now I am well aware of the crappy EPB and the perils of venturing into muddy water and gloop in a D3 but some of us never learn Rolling Eyes

Anyway, has anyone found a way of stopping the EPB screamers when you use a D3 off-road? I am going to try and not use it at all when I'm off roading and just park up in gear in low range if need be. However, afterwards and once back on terrafirma is it a case of having to strip down and clean up the internals every time or can you get a power wash jet in without removing the disc to dislodge the crud that will have collected???

I really wish a manual brake conversion kit was available!!

take the wheel off and remove the plastic plug from the disc that covers the hole to adjust the EPB - stick hose pipe in and give it a good wash.

its not as good as tripping it down but a lot better than not doing anything at all Thumbs Up

dude my EPB has not been even that messy after last Romanian excursion which included Censored loads of mud on daily basis

I did as Bodsy says flush it all out with the hose no issues at all

Thanks for the tip, hopefully by not applying it when it's in the mud and then hosing out it, it should last a bit longer than normal.

I have had a few discussions with the guys at X-Eng about a manual conversion, they have come up with a solution to fit one of their disc transmission brakes but activating it is the issue. The EPB module isn't suitable so a manual lever is required but locating it isn't easy. They did say that when they removed the cubby box on their guinea pig car that there was mounting hardware below for a manual lever so LR must have considered it at some point in the early design stages! They never got to finish the project though apparently.

I recently had a conversation about this and apparently if you are in low range the EPB actuator(or whatever it is called)applies a stronger force than when in hi range.so if squeeling occurs when off road you would change the ratio and then apply EPB.

Not sure if this is correct or not as i have not had the squeeler happen to me to test the theory.

Thoughts?

Have to say I use mine all the time when I'm off road and I've not had a problem to date (watch that change now....) but I do clean and adjust it regularly using the notes in Bodsy's Brake Bible.

I always think things are better used little but often rather than left to seize up.

Having an auto I'm not a fan of using 'P' to hold the car because of the unnecessary extra force on the pin.
 I see no ships........

I've never had mine fail while off roading, or even shortly afterwards. It's generally failed under normal driving or months afterwards. Last time was in Austria, about 3 months after I had last been off road. Not sure if they were related or not though.

Every time my car goes in servicing or repairs now (which is quite often Laughing ) I get them to strip and clean the EPB just incase.
