Landrover techs.. step forward please! |
|
I decided a few weeks ago to sell my D3 and upgrade to a newer version, I then changed my mind and have decided to hang on until next year when I will be able to justify a 2nd hand D4 if I run this one a bit longer.
Anyway, two weeks after I make this decision I am driving along, minding my own business as you do, when I noticed that my gears did not 'fel' right (Yes its a manual). The gear stick had gone all 'sloppy' and the stick does not 'bounce' back when I pull it towards the drivers side.
I have been told this is a broken retension spring in the box.
The questions I have are this -
a, does anyone know for certain if there is a retension spring inside the box.
b, where do I get spares from - I have asked the dealer and they tell me that the 'system' only shows the box and no internal parts are available (I have been in and taken a look and this appears to be the case).
They have suggested in will need a new gear box which seems a bit excessive to me.
We are not afraid to drop the box ourselves, but what then? If I can't get the bits I need I may as wel leave it as it drives OK even if slick gear changes are a thing of the past.
Thoughts please
