dreaded service no 7!!

Just rang up my local dealer to find out how much my 7th service would cost....dealer replied £440.... I thought that was a bit steep until he said actually sorry I misread the list the price is actually £900 Big Cry It is the timing belt service...for that price I am assuming they replace it with one made from kylie minogues knickers!!
Is it just me or is that CRAZY money???? obviously I am on the look out for a good indy garage in the sheffield area to do the work and approx prices from others who have had this done would be great. Are there any other nasty servicing surprises waiting for me out there? Shocked

BTW get a new water pump fitted whilst yer there (around £30), cost yer an extra 30 mins labour but will save yer a lot of aggro and poss a new engine as the tension of the new water pump belt will be very tight and has been known to rip the pump off the engine mounting leaving a sheered off nut to get out of the engine block Crying or Very sad Whistle Thumbs Up

Now that conjurs up some thoughts.....

The water pump is driven by the aux drive belt, which is tensioned by an automatic tensioner Whistle

Think you were just unlucky...

7th service

I have the same service due within 2k so called local stealer who quoted £750 ish plus another £300 or so for service. Have exact figures but not to hand. Called Nene Overland and they have said just under £500 for the belt changes and service which I assume will be not exactly major. Either way it's worth the 2 hr drive to save a huge lump plus get a courtesy car for the day so treat it as a day out. Think I may add the water pump replacement as mentioned on this thread but not sure of cost yet. Also have a slight vibration on uphill starts only, not on level, so wondered if a gear box oil chnge would solve this but this would be extra during service. Have noticed it also happens when carrying heavyish amount in back of vehicle. Disco 3 2005 auto. By the way - hello to everyone and have to say the knowledge on here is unbelievable.

Used Nene for mine... very good service... Lent me a 4x4 (Mazda pick up but did the job) for two days (they did a shed load of other stuff at the same time at my request) and charged me about 500 quid for the service element.

I would recommend them to anyone - they even waited for me when I went to pick it up as I got held up in traffice and then missed the turning of the A1 so ran about 40 minutes past their closing time but the service girl hung on for me (so I tipped her enough to buy a bottle of wine for the evening Wink )

Worth the journey - you could just spend the day looking at their extensive range of secondhand Landies and playing with things in the shop Whistle
