WABDR Overland trip report
We started from Ellensburg and decided to head north on the WABDR path to Cahsmere. We got as far north as FS Road 10 to find out it was
washed out. So we turned to Mr. Garmin who took us back down to Wenatchee. From Wenatchee we decided since it was getting dark we'd
go up to Leavenworth, from there north up Chumstick Road then right on Eagle Creek Road / County Hwy 112. From there we took a left onto
FS Road 7510. It turns out my Dad is very familiar with these roads so we veered off the WABDR route for a ways, bypassing Cashmere and
the entrance there. We stayed the night on a nice ridge, had dinner, watched the starts and talked until it was time to sleep.
The next day we continued on 7510 until it met up with the WABDR trail at French Corral Road/NFS Road 5800. From there we exited at
Wenatchee, got gas and headed up Hwy 97 to Winthrop. At Winthrop we headed west over Hwy 20 to Darrington where we did some shooting
on top of a mountain where there is a safe and fun place to shoot out AR's.
From there we came down the mountain and headed home via Hwy 9.
Over all drive was 570 or so miles, around 200 of which were offroad miles. The LR3 did really well. I want to sell my D1 now to put the money
towards new, more agressive and durable tires for my LR3. I never thought I'd be interested in these modern, new fangled 4WD rigs like my
LR3 but hey it worked great, had plenty of power and mileage wasn't to shabby (17 mpg average across hwy and offroad miles)
Most of the terrain is passable with street tires however you'd be better off with brand new street tires or mild offroad or all terrain tires. While
my Pirellis did the job I noticed a couple missing lugs aftfer the trip was complete. No puntcures though! so at least they got me home!
