I've posted this before, but I'll repeat it.
A friend and colleague, who's now on his 2nd D3, has previously owned various big 4X4's inc. RR and LR as well the usual Jap stuff. The first winter that he owned a D3, he drove through snow, ice etc. on Goodyear Wrangler HP's and declared it to be the best 4X4 he'd ever used in the winter. He realised after the snow had melted that both the front tyres were down to the metal (AJS can confirm) on the inner side, as the tracking/alignment was so far out.
So even on on trashed HP's, he still found his D3 to be better than any of his previous 4X4's.

I have posted before, that proper wintertyres are the way to go, bad experiences in a defener on STT's has made me steer away from MT winter time.
You can seip AT's and they work well on defeners, but its a ton less in weight.
I ran Pirelli Snow & ice, studdfree tyres for 2 seasons, but changed to Nokian studded tyres due to more of my driving was over sheer compacted ice.
I run narrow 17" to get the d3 to sink through the salt / slushy mush you find when the council just salts the roads rather then plough it continiously.
The D3 is good, but its 3 tonn is a handicap in deep snow (bottoms out even in super extended mode).
AJS does give the thumbs up for the wintracs, I have never tried them personnally, but these may fit the british winter rather then scandinavian winters.
I run MTR's in the summer, so I am happy to change back as soon as possible.
Winter time I travel to our cottage over a 700 M hasl pass, and the conditions are challenging, the Nokians are great.
Mao if your in the highlands / peaks / dales then go for a tyre made for the conditions, occasional use, MTR might work for you, but you have to drive very defensively.

do you get Gislaved tyres sized for the D3 where you live....?
I have used these before on the first Volvo (with 60 series tyres) I had
Volvo actually gave a five tyre set....quite wierd to look at as they were wide onthe rim but sort of taperd down to give a narrow contavt area...plus they had a super soft compound.
Lasted two winters - but transformed what was a real dumb non Volvo like Volvo into a reasonable / drivabkle vehicle. BREXIT - done properly.

Save the Dipstick Flagbearer-keep it simple, less likely to fail campaign-agenda items:Starting Handles, Acetylene Lamps.

D3 HSE-perfectly formed, passenger friendly...has real DIPSTICK
Jag XK-but sadly no DIPSTICK...HUGE design fault
FL2 has DIPSTICK..."real comfort in rear seats"
VW Golf wondermobile (?)..has real DIPSTICK
Morris Minor..original DIPSTICK technology..and a real KEY.

Not tried gislaved on the D3, seen alot of people using them on normal cars, but tyres change, NAF the norwegian AA test winter tyres every winter, normally, continetal, goodyear, bridgestone, nokian and michelin are fighting for the top places, but I can´t recall seeing Gislaved there in the last few years.
