You say MS XP - presumably with Service Pack III & patched to date?
Which browser are you using?
Whichever it should be the current version, patched to date. I would recommend Firefox - the currrent version of which is 5.0.1.
Anti-virus? Free AVG is OK.

Hi,
It's not so much to do with Windows XP but the browser you are using and any of the plug-ins or (add-ins, things like toolbars etc) that you may have installed. If you tell us what browser you are using then we can maybe suggest some solutions.
Also when you say Windows XP locks up, how long do you give it to unlock. Generally it should notice that something is wrong and try and close the offending process.
Cheers,
Al

Just don't get one with Lion yet... it's almost as buggy as Win XP!
I'm sure they'll sort it, but best wait for next version or so....

All
latest Internet explorer version 8 but I agree if it was a choice I would own a MAC.
Tried all the add ons and pop up blockers but still locks can wait minutes .
So instead of throwing it against the wall I disconnect the internet and reconnect which unfreezes everything.

Latest IE version is actually 9 not 8. I use Firefox with no problems. Why not update to the latest version of either. Firefox is V5.0 Stvmor

Disagree, I've been using it since day 2 and had no problems. Uses more RAM than SL so I bunged another 8Gb in (£40) ____

Today is update Tuesday (2nd Tuesday of the month) - try doing a windows update and see if it still does that. If after the update it's still locking up then take a look at this link and see if disabling a few things helps it:
http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/3892/manage...xplorer-8/
Also it could be your anti-virus or security program trying to protect you. Make sure that fella is updated too.

Try copying a large file (say a few gigabytes) from one volume to two other volumes simultaneously! - it's something people who use mac's for video editing have to do quite a bit. Won't do it !!! It has to wait until one copy finishes before it'll start the second, almost doubling the time taken...
This and many other bugs (wi-fi dropouts, missing copy files etc) have slowed down the mac's use considerably for video editors even with maxed out ram. Apple have acknowledged many of the highlighted issues but simply say they are looking at them?
SL has no such problems by the way so we've had to downgrade all our machines until a solution can be found. Don't get me wrong... I like the idea of Lion - just think it might be wise to wait for a couple of versions if your use is critical for business.

Ah yes ... Just tried it with a 4Gb movie file. Exactly as you say. Does the server edition have this limitation?

The solution is to run it as a virtual machine. Windows 7 native for real work and a VM for mac for designing handbags etc.
