Hello all,
Have been using this site for a while now as a passive reader of other peoples issues (as I am by no means an expert) and the expertise on here is awsome, and has certainly helped me learn about and self-fix certain things on my Disco 3!!
Last week I drove down to Italy for our annual stint in the sun. We drove down through the Alps and its was stunning and the Disco was brilliant. I did however notice a slight surging on acceleration and it seems to be a very exagerated juddering on the winding hills here in Tuscany, certainly when going up hill and round a sharp bend. Always seems to around 1900 to 2100 RPM. Ease off or kick down and it disappears.
Having read through other posts it is identical to the symptoms described by members who have said that a Mega flush on the auto gearbox has solved the problem...so thats what I'll do when I get home.
The car is a 05 HSE with just under 80k miles on the clock so it looks as though the timing is about right if not a bit late) anyhow.
My question is about whether someone could recommend a place around Milton Keynes for me to get the mega flush done? I see site member 4-Tech is in Cambridgeshire...I'd travel if needs be to get it done by the right person/people.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Paul

What yer like, Cambridge is only 40 mins away if that
As for the dreaded gearbox judder, IMHO there are mixed views as to whether the flush does or does not sought the issue in the long term.
From my own experience, and having had this done a number of years before 2011, the judder will come back again depending on how frequently you use the D3 and only masks the main issue of either the torque converter/control module or box itself going pete tongue!
From experience, you might first of all have the vehicle inspected by an auto transmission specialist, if I remember there is one up around Peterborough or close to who do repairs under warranty for the big warranty companies.
In moneytary terms, cost of torque converter, or control module (which is most likely the cause) would be around £600 plus vat for each part plus around the same for labour, plus yer 11 or litres of shell transmission fluid at around £18-21 a litre.
Bear in mind, you could have one part fitted only to find its the other, so if yer going to keep it for some time, then a new gearbox would be around £2300 plus vat (which includes the torque converter/control module/10 litres of shell transmission fluid and the gearbox itself) and around £600 for fitting. Yer old box will have a surcharge of £700 so take that in to consideration if you are having it done by a non LR dealer. This will leave yer with 12 months unlimited mileage warranty on parts and labour.
Or yer could sell the car and get a MY07/08 plate which seems to suffer less from the judder
