Brake warning light question

Hi

I was on my way home from work and noticed an orange warning light has lit up on my speedo panel. I'm assuming it's for the brakes as it's the same as my EPB light (but that's red).

What does this warning actually mean, I assume it's perhaps warning me that the pads are low. But is it something that I should be worried enough about to stop driving the car immediately, or will I get through the weekend to get it sorted on Monday?

Oh, the car is a 5/6 Disco 3 manual if that makes a difference.

Cheers

Jem

Yep, everything works as it should. It's just the little orange brake light thingy that's lit up.

Yeah, that's what I was afraid of. Hoping it will get me through the weekend (local drives only). Anyone have an idea of a ballpark figure for the pads replacing?

Should be okay for a few miles - it's a warning rather than a Censored stop now lamp.

New pads and rotors if you shop around should be under $800 US dollars, and less for you considering the exchange rate and you live in Beatle land. Just checked the conversion, and you should be able to get rotors, and pads (with sensors) for around 560E. Thumbs Up

if you do it your self you will be able to change the pads and discs all round for £250 ish, follow Bodsy s brake bible and it is dead easy mind you will need new wear sensors think they are about a tenner each from a land rover dealer. You should be able to see through the wheel if the discs are worn out and how bad the pads are

If the orange light is " the same as my EPB light" then it relates to the parking brake and has nothing to do with brake pads. The handbook says "If the indicator flashes red or illuminates yellow, a fault with the parkbrake system is indicated, seek qualified assistance before continuing. When parking the vehicle in this condition, ensure that the vehicle is secured stationary without reliance on the parkbrake."

There are two other lights associated with the main braking system although the symbols are different from that for the parking brake and they are not in the speedometer.

The Brake Systems light should show amber for either worn brake pads or a fault in the emergency brake assist.

The other indicates a fault with the anti-lock braking system.

Please check with your handbook if you are not sure and do not just assume that the pads will need replacing in a while. It could be more serious than that.

Thanks Dave, i'll get the book out and check.

I went to the takeaway last night and the light has now extinguished... Maybe just a glitch in the Matrix.

Will probably take it to the garage tomorrow 'just in case' as I don't take risks when it comes to brakes or tyres.

Cheers
