Best prices for HSE

Hi,
Having left the forum back in 2008 after the sale of our D3 we have had a Freelander 2 and now have an Evoque on order for November delivery, (yes, I know).
We still haven't seen one in the flesh but we feel from recent photos that it could be too small for our lifestyle.

Somehow though, we feel drawn to returning to the Discovery fold with a D4.

I have been reading through the forum and checking the Autotrader etc and prices are holding up very well, especially from dealers that its quite close to the new price - ish!
I also note that dealers are not giving much of a discount at the moment although there has been mention of an 8% discount and an NFU 5% discount on top.

i know that this is the 50 million dollar question but -
What sort of prices should I be aiming for, for a new car and dealer discount?
Is it easy to join the NFU to get this discount?

Anyone thinking of selling their 2010 or newer HSE around Sept October time?

Much appreciate any answers in helping us to decide.

I seem to remember someone on here, or possibly another forum saying they had joined NFU to get discount, and truthfully claimed that they owned less than 100 acres and grew grass. IE a garden.

They didnt check me, and I joined through my local office who insure all my, definitely non agricultural, kit so they absolutely know what I do for a living and the size of my house and grounds as they insure that as well!

That said though you have to be a member for 3 months, so best join now. Had a quick look through the membership pages, can't see any T's and C's but wasn't looking hard.

The NFU told me that they have Farmer & Grower members with only one acre - so you pay the ~£136 fee and then £1 per acre. So, for an annual £137 you can get £2,700 off the list price. And it could be even less than that, as the membership price is worked out on a November renewal basis, so you could pay as little as £46 (for a four month membership) and then not renew in November (assuming your car was delivered before then.)

Now, there are some obvious conditions for the Land Rover deal. You must be a member for three months before you can apply for the paperwork, which can take a further four weeks to come through. So best to become a member a minimum of four months before you actually want / expect to take delivery of the car. This is also assuming that the NFU and LR continue this offer, as it is due to expire at the end of this month. (There is no reason to suspect it will come to an end, as it has been going for a few years now.)

I can't comment on whether the NFU check if you are a farmer or not - that's down to the local office and the Land Rover dealership to check. If they accept the paperwork, then go for it.

I have just placed an order for a late-September car with an 8% dealer discount and the further 5% discount from the NFU. PM me and I can give you the details of who to speak to.

Hi Tony,

Good to see you back on here, the evoque next to a freelander is a lot smaller. I quite liked it but its a serious amount of money to spec it up plus it felt cramped.

I sold my D3 in march after two years and only lost the price of a good curry and now in a new BMW.

Good luck with your D4 quest, it's a lot different to a D3....

Hi Jim,
Really nice to hear from you and its good to be back. Sorry to hear that you sold the D3 but sounds that it all worked out very well for you in the end.

I have a few leads to follow up now but have limited time this week as we are in the Lakes. only down side is that there are quite a few new D4's driving around. In fact its like being inside a large landrover showroom.

Hi, if you are in The Lakes, why not pop in to Lakeland Landrover near Torver (south of Coniston). They are excellent people to deal with. Some fanstastic walks from their door as well across the Blawith Fells.

So I need all the stuff when I go to the dealer to place the order?

And is it true that I cannot use a Scottish dealer?

Thanks

Have no idea about Scotland with regards to the NFU. I was able to order the car without any NFU details, but it is when you come to pay that you need to get it all sorted. Suggest getting paperwork ready a month before payment.
