Advice please for a potential D4 purchase - what's good? |
|
Thinking about changing my D3 XS for a new D4 XS. I've seen the LR bumpf about what's new; I get all of that.
Can someone please tell me the following (apologies if these seem slightly random):
- Does the D3 detachable tow bar fit a D4? Is there an extra I need to buy in terms of the fittings?
- Is the D4 satnav better than the utterly sh t D3 satnav? Is the standard XS system good enough?
- Does the D3 dog cage and cargo divider fit in a D4 or is there a new one?
- I need LHD headlights. Do D3 ones retro fit into a D4? (Halogen)
Any other advice on what extras are worth getting would be gratefully received.
Many thanks. PAGODA

D3 towbar will fit the D4, I have still mine as it has my bike rack attachment on it, got one with the D4 as well, so now have two towbars
The boot on the D4 is exactly the same dimensions, I transferred my D3 boot mat to the D4 and it fits perfectly.
D3 headlights will not fit the D4.
Extras I have are
Surround cameras - like them but not essential.
Hybrid TV - Really good when you are waiting around in the car.
Cooler - good for keeping few cold drinks (non Alcoholic) in.
Privacy glass -keeps car a bit cooler and stops prying eyes.
Full size spare - doesnt cost much as an option and dont like the idea of a spacesaver spare!
Ipod lead - only needed if you wish to connect your ipod but is a £25 option, but to buy as an accessory nearly £50!
Carpet mats - cost £80 as an option but they are not as good quality as the accessory version - Glad my dealer had to change mine and couldnt get a replacment factory version
Heated steering wheel - will be useful in the winter
Will be having the timed/remote climate option activated later.

Thanks, Woody. I like the idea of privacy glass.
Do you know if all D4's have the fitting for the removable tow bar, or does the receiving bit (into which the removable tow bar plugs) have to be fitted as an optional extra? I realise that the bar itself is extra; like you, I already have one and so would seek to keep that.
Cheers. PAGODA

The receiver for the towbar will be present regardless of whether the towbar option is ticked or not, but you would need the electrics (D3 electrics are not compatible) and if you wished the towbar storage bracket. I ticked the towbar option as I was going to sell the new towbar but have since decided to keep it as the my other towbar will not fit in the storage bracket due to the bracket for the bike rack.

The D3 dog guard fits a D4 - not sure about the divider, haven't got one of those but I suspect it will be the same...

Divider will fit no problems, unless I've missed something the car body is identical from the A-pillars backwards so parts that fit the D3 will fit the D4. 2018 D5 3.0 HSE Lux
