They're adaptives by the looks of it so you can't fit them as you don't have the extra ECU to control them, non adaptives will work as a straight replacement for halogens The End

Cheers, will keep eyes our for non adaptive xenons (if I can persuade SWMBO that I can fit them to her car!!!)

does the ECU come as part of the HSE spec or is it an addon? 2004 TDV6 HSE Auto Zambezi Silver

Optional extra on any model fitted with adaptives - unless you get adaptives as standard, of course.

so if i have xenons I wont have the needed ECU to upgrade to adaptive.
could the ECU be retro fitted? if so any idea how to locate it on a D3 with one present? is it a simple plug and play .... or do you need software upgrade to switch it on? 2004 TDV6 HSE Auto Zambezi Silver

Hmm, so would these Xenons not work at all on a Halogen equipped car or would it be just the adaptive bulbs that don't function? I would have thought the other lamps would be activated by the same triggers/pins but could of course be wrong  2020 BMW X1 18d XDrive X-Line Auto

I suspect the adaptives would point in the wrong direction unless they were getting the correct "instructions" from the electronics. Having said that, I imagine you could "fix" the position of the adaptives in the correct place.
We have bi-xenons on our D3 and RRS but only the RRS are adaptive. Must confess to being underwhelmed with the adaptives though. Living well off the beaten track in Northumberland I was lead to believe that the adaptives would significantly enhance the ease of driving on unlight, winding country lanes. In practice it is hard to notice any difference at all betwen the adaptive and non adaptive experience.
A chief landrover designer who "launched" the D3 a couple of years ago described the adaptive headlight system as "possibly the greatest advance in driving saftey since ABS brakes". I don't get that at all.
The bi-xenons do make a big difference to illumination but there are 3 drawbacks that people should be aware of. Firstly they are so bright that on winding lanes it is hard to avoid "blinding" the car heading towards you. That can cause them to misjudge the width of the lane and therefore make them more likely to obstruct your progress. Secondly in heavy fog, the bixenons give out too much light, even on low beam, which simply bounces back at you. One day this week I simply could not drive with headlights on in thick fog and had to resort to inching forward on sidelights. And thirdly the cost is ridiculous. After a month of owning the D3 one headlight cracked and the dealer quoted over £400 to replace it. Disco 4 TDV6HSE

When you fit adaptives to a non adaptive car you can adjust the side to side movement but not the up and down (or at least not without forcing it) Zermatt silver 06 reg.
