Just looking at the tubes or side steps for the D4.
Having not seen the tubes in the flesh, is it possible for them to be used as a side step (slightly less intrusive) or are they of no use for that purpose?
if only they made black side steps ....

Personally neither, but why not get some standard steps stove enamelled black?

I don't really want them either, but with little ones in the back seats, I understand that the steps make a lot of difference. Maybe we should try without to start with!

I wouldn't use tubes as an aid to getting in and out of the D4, when they are wet they are 42 times more slippery than a big bag of slippery things from Teflonville. Club Exped trailer

Tubes look cool, but are useless for getting in and out. Steps are useful for getting in and out but make the disco look like something out of the keystone cops. Previous cars

i had tubes on my D3 - cost about £300 at the time I think. they lasted about 18months before they were totally trashed.
they offer no assistance to getting in or out of the car.
if its an access aid to getting in and out then the steps are ok I guess. but they will seriously hamper you offraod and you end end trashing those two.
I swapped my tubes out for some of RLD's bombproof sliders and they have been invincible, but they dont help you get in and out.
best to feed the family shreaded wheat and get them to grow a bit taller Duncan

I would only get steps if you have kids , mine are not small but even our neighbour had trouble getting in ! And she's not short , my daughters friends just couldnt make up. And to tell you the truth
It stops your average idiot , from trying to squeeze by , and scraping some paint off ,
Which happened the day before the steps went on , and I have side rubbing strips as well So they see the steps and avoid them, like the plague ,I know they stick out , but depending where you live though . 2008 ,hse, it does what it says .

Thanks for all the info, guys.
Not sure I will fall in to the serious off-roading category, sadly. Much as I'd love to, Scottish Natural Heritage don't like me trampling all over my own land - I have to stick to the tracks!

Totally agree - the Disco steps look really silly.....even though they do serve a purpose
The RRS streps though look quite good as thay have faired tham in to tale inthe shape of the car BREXIT - done properly.
