Excessive smell of fuel
Hello,
I took my 2005 D3 v8 to the mechanic and he tells me that when the engine is running there is a constant smell of fuel. He read the computer for codes, nothing. The D3's mileage has been plummeting lately.
Is there any reason for this? Has anyone heard of this?
Thank you
Devang

I realise I'm about to point out the obvious and I'm not meaning to be patronising so sorry if this has been done but I've seen garages miss the blatantly obvious before - has he checked the fuel lines for leaks
Start with the obvious and work your way from there is my motto, so now that I've checked I still have both my legs it's time for me to get out of bed
When checking the lines, pay attention to the plastic 'elbow' on the pipework atop the tank. This seems particularly attractive to rodents; I've had to have a replacement tank for this reason, although it can be patched instead.Time flies like an arrow; fruit flies like a banana

Thanks for the suggestions, would there be a smell of fuel in my garage when I leave the D3 overnight in these circumstances? Or does the fuel on flow when the pump is running?
In the mornings there is no smell of fuel just when the engine is started.
I am taking it back to the mechanic on Tuesday. I will post the results then.
