Sump plate & winch: fitting and road handling?
Hi y'all.
I have ordered up a black sump plate from RLD and a discrete (hidden) TDS9.5 winch kit from Goodwinch and am looking forward (with some trepidation) to fitting them to my D4. I have 2 questions for the experts and experienced amongst you and would value your advice please:
1) How/will the extra weight in front of the front axle affect road handling, road holding, vehicle balance and so on? I assume that given that LR offer a bumper-mounted winch (further in front of the axle, more leverage) as an accessory that it is within the bounds of safety, but will my machine remain as nimble as she was before? Are there any other secondary effects I may have overlooked?
2) I have seen a variety help on this forum in Haynes-style photo shoots of bumpers off and winches on which are great. But has anyone got a blow by blow or rather bolt by bolt, clip by clip guide from beginning to end for fitting a hidden winch? It is things like the plastic clips holding on plastic bodywork which if you don't know where they are and pressure them in the wrong direction get broken and the thing never goes back together properly again and that is what I am trying to avoid.

I've just fitted one of the non-hidden systems (as I could not be ar8ed with the prospect of having to remove the bumper every time I needed to do something with the winch).
Not noticed any effect on the handling at all. Using knowlege from decades ago, I have increased the tyre pressures on the front by 3psi. What I have noticed is that BMW drivers don't pull out in front as much as they used to. A vaccine does not stop you catching a virus, or passing it on, or getting ill from it, really ill. It does reduce the likelyhood of you dying when really, really ill. Stay Alive - KEEP AWAY FROM PEOPLE.

Thanks for the pictorial KevG, I had spotted that one.
What I am looking for is the instructions by which one achieves the situations in the pictures. To you guys who regularly dismantle and reassemble your motors this is all obvious, but we novices can get in to a right mess of broken clips and bent mouldings very quickly.
Navigator thanks for the good advice on P's and you bring up a good point, how often does one need to re-remove the bumper to fix something on the hidden winch? Depends how often you use and abuse it I suppose.

I have had both hidden and non hidden ..and cant say it made any difference to handling .
Hidden winch ...i took the bumper off once in 3 years to service the winch .( taken off many other times for other things though )
Whole front end can be removed in about 20 minsG4 Gone ...but not forgotten

Can anyone let me have a schematic from the parts manual which shows the fastenings which have to be undone to remove the whole front end in 20 mins please?
Another question came to mind: the front left surround camera has stopped working and I was going to get it fixed on the next service given that they are totally fg useless. I imagine if I have had the front end off and slipped in a winch, the stealer may balk at any (non-) related warranty repairs.
