Er ... Buying oil for D4 TDV6 3.0 in the USA??

So i actually live in Ethiopia; I ordered my new D4 from the UK (tax free with diplomatic discount - so got it for half the price it retails for in my home of Oz Very Happy ). But I have access to diplomatic shipping service from the USA (and you sure as Censored can't buy the right oil in Addis Ababa). As the USA is only just waking up to diesel engines, they still only sell the D4 V8 there

...Many posts discuss the importance of the correct spec oil. I can't find it in the USA, online. Will it really matter if i use another brand / spec of oil, so long as I select a high quality 5W-30 synthetic oil designed for diesel engines? And will I void my warranty?

My D4 is specced WITHOUT the DPF, which some forums state is a distinguishing factor for oil spec.

Never knew an oil change could be soo complicated ... Confused

Thanks mse for replying. After much searching I found availability in the USA of an oil that meets ACEA/C2 spec, which LR says is an acceptable substitute. So I'll go with that I think.

Hi mowog

(I happen to be an Aussie living in Ethiopia married to a US citizen ...)

below are details of what I found on Amazon, it says "It is EURO IV emission regulation compliant, requiring an ACEA C2 engine oil":

Motul 841511-12PK 8100 Eco-clean 5W-30 ACEA C2 100 Percent Synthetic Gasoline and Diesel Lubricant for Euro IV engines - 1 Liter, (Case Pack of 12)

Product Features

* Suitable for all types of gasoline or diesel engines
* For Euro IV engines
* Developed ACEA C2 standard for lubricants with low friction
* 100 percent synthetic engine oil
* Environmentally friendly

Manufacturer Part Number: 84151112PK
Product Description
"Fuel Economy" engine oil is specially designed for last generation cars, powered by turbo diesel, direct injection or gasoline engines. It is EURO IV emission regulation compliant, requiring an ACEA C2 engine oil, designed to use low friction and low HTHS (< 3.5 mPa.s) viscosity oil and "Mid SAPS" with reduced content of suphated ash (= 0.8 precentage), phosphorus (0.07 = x = 0.09 precentage) and sulphur (= 0.3 precentage). Suitable for any type of diesel or gasoline engines calling for "fuel economy" lubricants : ACEA A1/B1 or A5/B5 standards. These oils may be unsuitable for use in some engines. Refer to the owner manual or handbook if in doubt. Engines compliant with EURO IV emission regulation are fitted with sensitive exhaust gas after treatment systems, sulphur and phosphorus inhibit catalytic convertors operation and can damage catalytic components resulting in inefficient exhaust gas treatment. Sulphated ashes clog diesel particulate filters and shorten regenerating cycle resulting in higher fuel consumption and engine power loss. ACEA developed ACEA C2 standard for lubricants with low friction, low HTHS (< 3.5 mPa.s), reduced Sulphated Ash, Phosphorus and Sulphur content (Mid SAPS), suitable for use with exhaust gas after treatment systems. ACEA C2 lubricants are environment friendly reducing fuel consumption, minimizing green house gases emission and also achieve extended drain intervals managed by vehicles computer on board.

A Diesel D4 in the USA will be a rare thing.

Will the local Land Rover dealers service and warrant it for you?

And very rare in Ethiopia - I think we have the only one here! There is an authorised LR service agent here, but I'm not confident in them. I'm just praying we don't have problems. Few people buy LRs here, due to these issues. I couldn't bring myself to buy a Toyota agricultural implement instead, given that most of our use is on-road (but we do need 4wd). Particularly as I bought in GBP not AUD, tax free and diplomatic discount, which meant my 2011 D4 cost AUD 45,000 - half the cost in Australia!
