I know, I was thinking the same thing as we went through the rocks together (I have fairly agressive Nitto Terra Grappler all terrians), until the first slick rock section. My tires howled a bit as they spun and chirped their way over the rocks, where John's tires were totally silent and just stuck to the rocks. The Wranglers might be crap on the road, but they stick to this sort of rock (sand stone and mudstone) really well!

In most of the video clips & pics. I've seen of D3's doing rock climbs, they're wearing road rubber.
As an off-road numpty, I'm guessing that on dry rocks, maybe road biased tyres are as good or better than more off-road biased tyres. Am I right

Pretty much LT - more contact area = more grip, the only downside would be the potential for damage on sharp rocks (although not the case in the photo's above) the Disco3 is very capable on most surfaces on standard rubber

On the slickrock, the wranglers seem to be the tire of choice. I don't know how they compare to extreme rock crawling tires like superswampers, but compared to the tires on the discos and the other trucks there, they seemed to work much better. Even going down the slickrock, I was able to go really slowly down some pretty steep stuff without much noise. This one jacked up zebra striped disco squeeled like a stuck pig on the same descent.

The 19" Pirelli's on my HSE are fantastic on the road (dry or wet). Interestingly all the D3's I tested prior to buying had Goodyear tyres, one of the first things I noticed was how much better the handling/steering feel was on my D3.
So far they've been fine on muddy tracks & wet grass fields, which surprised me as they look as if they're going to be useless. Others here have assured me that they are actually pretty good in more serious off-road situations.

I took mine around Broughrood, Tixover, Yarwell and up Chapel Gate on 18" Pirelli Scorpions.....without a care in the world
It's not all sweetness and light though......they really don't like flint 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021
